FDO Connection Issues

Excuse me for not being well versed in this area.  I'm more of a Civil 3D user.  But this feature is definitely a Map 3D one.

I have a client who recently moved to Civil 3D 2021.  Whenever she attempts to establish a data connection she receives the following message:

FDO Issue.png

She is working with an SDE database where she utilizes FDO connections through an SQL server.  The issue appears whenever she attempts make edits to any of these connections. The is able to establish the connection and view the data, but cannot edit the data and save the edits to synchronize with the larger database.

Any help is appreciated,

I don't have a copy of Map 2021 kicking around to consult, but it appears that she's trying to use the ArcSDE connection provider, which needs some esri libraries in the correct location in order to work, if I recall correctly.

She should also have an ArcGIS Connection provider available. See if she can access the data using the ArcSDE Enterprise option in there.

Yes those are the libraries she will need, but the version (and naming) of them will vary slightly depending on which release of arcgis desktop she is running. I don't know what version of arcgis Map 2021 will support, but you should be able to find that easily enough.

The ArcSDE connection provider appears to have been dropped in Map 2022 in favour of the ArcGIS Connection provider. She really should try the newer one instead.

Thank you!  I will recommend this.  I believe they are looking for a global change though.  This has to be done individually on each system.  Is there a way to push this out to all systems?

If you use the newer ArcGIS Connection, then I don't believe you need to worry about copying up all of those files. Somebody else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it will just work out of the box.

If she insists on using the older ArcSDE Connection and you want it pushed out to several machines without having to manually copy files then you'll have to script it somehow. Talk to your IT people and see if they can do something like that; I don't imagine it would be difficult for them.
