connect arcgis 10.2.2 on arcsde 9.2 autocadmap 3d 2015 for 64 bit windows7

Q.1 I have insatalled arcgis 10.2.2 and Autocad Map 3d 2015 - SP3 -64 bit software in my local pc on windows 7 - 64 bit  and arcsde 9.2 on oracle but i can't make connection between Autocad Map 3d 2015 and arcsde. 

Same thing was possible on windows 7 -32 bit and ArcGIS 10.2.

Q.2 Is that necessary to install ArcGIS desktop software on local machine to connect Autocad Map 2015 and ArcSDE 9.2 on server on oracle.

Are you running ArcSDE 64-bit?

arcsde 9.2 is running on windows 2003 64 bit server and autocad map 2015 is on windows 7 64 bit

To answer your quetions:

1) ArcSDE 9.2 and 10.2.2 are both unsupported in AutoCAD Map 3D 2015 SP3 64-bit.  Please refer to the following documentation:

System requirements for AutoCAD Map 3D 2015

ESRI ArcSDE

ArcSDE® 9.3 SP1 ArcSDE 10, ArcSDE 10.1

Support for 10.2 was added with Map 3D 2015 SP2.

I realize that the Help documentation and the first Knowledge Base article (pulled from the Help documentation) that Barry shared states that 9.2 is supported, however I checked with the development team and they confirmed that the Help documentation is out of date and that the System Requirements are correct.  I have put in a request to have the Help documentation updated.

2) It is not necessary to have ArcGIS desktop installed on the local machine to connect Autocad Map 2015 and ArcSDE, however you do need the required .dll files as described here:

*As far at the contrasting information that Barry pointed out, those two articles are referring to 2 different types of data connections (ArcSDE vs ArcGIS file or personal geodatabase).  Once again, I realize that the documentation is not entirely clear about this and I apologize for that.

Thank you for the clarification Dianne.

My company went through many pains after the 2013 release as we lost all connectivity to our SDE despite trying 32 bit and 64 bit methods (we had the 64 bit version ot Autodesk software). Up until that point we shared the SDE with out GIS group but implemented SQL Server Spatial Server and have not had a problem since.

I personally think this is the way to go since it is not proprietary (i.e. ESRI based) and allows access from many geospatial softwares.

When is ESRI 10.3 and 10.3.1 support expected exactly?  10.4 will be released next year.  Most enterprise users have SDE and must convert to file geodatabases manually.  This is quite a bit of work!  In older versions of Map, it was possible to use Map 2008/2010 and ArcSDE/ArcServer 9.x to edit enterprise geodatabases.

I recommend suggesting the ArcSDE Implementation uses the SQL Server or Oracle native data type (i.e. GEOMETRY or SDO_GEOMETRY) so any GIS can see the data.

Note: I have had some luck with 10.2 and Map 3d 2015 with the FDO 3.9 Provider from

and the pe.dll, sde.dll and sg.dll from ArcGIS Install
