Checking in features

What on earth does checking in all features mean? Once I selected yes and saved changes to my dwg , my screen went blank. Im not quite sure what this means. When I opened the closed dwg again the screen was still blank, however my layers are still visible in the display manager. Can anyone help??

Gis,

 

I'm a little fuzzy on the "checking in and out" thing myself, but I think you can only make changes and edits to features that are checked out. Then you have to check them back in to save. Crazy huh? Maybe someone else will weigh in on the subject.

 

Can you post your drawing and your data?

Make sure you have all updates/SP installed and turn off/on Hardware Acceleration for the display issue. 

  

The Check out is to allow you to edit the features both the geometry and the data/attributes of it. The Check In writes those edits back to the original file or data source.

Thank you for that,

 

I have one more query, I hope you can perhaps help.

 

I opened my drawing normally, and theres a warning at the bottom saying "The file *so and so* has an invalid bounding box (minx)."

What could this mean? The file is a shapefile.

 

Someone suggested I remove that specific layer and reload it, which I tried and it just messed everything thing up further, now there are more warning messages popping up.

it is possibly related to the coordinate system of the data being different than that of the map.  have you set the map CS the same as the data? or are you trying to change the data to a different CS when it is put into the map? 

 

post your shp, shx, and prj files please  and the CS of your map is?

Hi,

 

is it possible, that your objects you checked in are out of the bounding box defined in the shp-file you use?

The "bounding box" is like a spatial filter defining the lef bottom and the right upper corner for legal objects.

 

Are you working with UTM coordinates without zone information e.g. 32(N) and inside the shape it is define with 32(N)?

32(N) means a addition of 32000000 to the x-value. When that is true you are out of the bounding box and your checkin objects

are not legal. That could be the reason they are not shown.

 

If you not working with UTM or you do it in the right way it could be the reason too. Testing it with an object between teh objects in the

original shp file and you should see the object after check in.

 

You can check this in connecting to the original shp file and than zoom extents of the fdo layer.

Look to the coordinnates.
