Bing Imagery updated to terrible resolution pictures.

We noticed this morning that Bing appears to have updated/downgraded the imagery available to AutoCAD users through the GEOMAP command.

The resolution is terrible compared to yesterday, and everything is off slightly (5'-10') to the west of where it was previously...

I'm guessing that this is the first step towards Bing having a paid subscription service for access to the better imagery.
The maps available on the Bing Maps website are MUCH better than what is available through AutoCAD now.

Does anyone know what is going on?

I concur.  The new imagery may be more current but the resolution is inadequate.  Its a substantial change that affects many of my utility clients.  Not happy.

Does anyone know if there is a method to link the Google imagery to a projected DWG?  I can get a dev code and link Google in other GIS products.  unsure if that is available in AcMap.

Hi @Anonymous, @Anonymous,

I want to apologize for the behavior.

Autodesk uses the service BING Maps and we have realized that the general quality of these Maps has changed.

This is nothing specific to AutoCAD Map or Civil and currently we are trying to figure out if there is anything which can be done by Autodesk.

We will update this post as soon as we have further details.

Other customers have told us that they found helpful applications in the Autodesk App Store when they search for BING.

Kind regards

Brigitte

B,

One good and free alternative to Bing Live Maps is <<<ArcGIS for AutoCAD>>>. Esri imagery is very good.

Thank you for the reply. I understand that it is out of the hands of
Autodesk, but any influence you can exert or information you can provide is
appreciated.

The new imagery is virtually useless, lacking the resolution and control for
utility mapping.

Hi @Anonymous,

thanks for your patience and understanding.

As an alternative might be an idea to use WMS for your necessary region.

Kind regards

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response to the ESRI site.  I did as you said in Map 2018 and tested the various imagery products they have.  The closest was the World Imagery.  The problem is they also use Bing and have the same issue.

I'm certain between the AcadMap and ESRI users, we'll have a responsive Microsoft...

This is very disappointing as we have become more reliant on geomap versus our outdated raster images. Is there anyway to un-due this latest geomap update?

Hi @CREIG.DANFORD,

unfortunately this can only be done bei Bing Maps not by Autodesk.

Please also be aware that we have an article in our Knowledge base with further details, which will be updated too.

Kind regards

Brigitte

EZ,

I hadn't used Bing Live Maps for a few months, so I thought I'd check things out. I couldn't get Bing Live Maps to work. At all. AutoCAD would just hang. That's never happened before. But ArcGIS for ACAD seems to work OK, albeit very slow this morning. How do you know ESRI uses Bing for its World Imagery?ArcGIS_ACAD.png

OK, so here's a side-by-side comparison of Bing Live Maps and ArcGIS for ACAD World Imagery.

How do you find the specific server URL needed for the ArcGIS for AutoCAD?
The video posted earlier doesn't address that...just show doing it for their own county.

B,

When you click on "World Imagery" it will ask for a coordinate system, which you'll have to select from the coordinate system folders in AutoCAD Map. Then it just works.

Nevermind...dumb question about the coordinate plane.

Got it to work!

thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I did a side by side in a couple different states that I work and found the
exact same images - currency and resolution.

It's working for me.
Slower than the prior GEOMAP, and you can't zoom in as close as we could before...but MUCH better than what Bing is giving us now.

I zoomed to a couple new areas and the ESRI world imagery is definitely better.

Thanks!

Yes, the ESRI World Imagery is what I used.

and now we're all getting a pop-up saying that we don't have permissions to use the imagery in AutoCAD.

This is an Autodesk window...but they don't know what is going on with the imagery?!?!
