Area in Autocad Map 3D

Hello,

I have a problem while calculating the area in Autocad. Particularly I draw a polygon and calculate i'ts area. After that I draw the same polygon as polyline and the calculated area was different! How is this possible? Where is the problem?

Thanks a lot

Show us: post your DWG file with the two objects in place as noted above.

Please take screenshot of the first polygon. Include the Properties Palette in the same screenshot. Next, do the  same with the second polygon—take a screenshot with the Properties  Palette. Finally upload both screenshots to the forum.

Hello

Your 2D Pline is BAD ! ... With 3 BAD Vertex : 7 / 8 / 9

Area = 48.81585640 = Length = 35.56267166

au niveau du point X=11.02305141 Y=13.17681706 Z=-1.02000000
au niveau du point X=14.01956049 Y=15.39055099 Z=-1.02000000
au niveau du point X=12.72996930 Y=17.13614095 Z=-1.02000000
au niveau du point X=14.54168511 Y=18.43967568 Z=-1.02000000
au niveau du point X=19.78589581 Y=11.26081797 Z=-1.02000000
au niveau du point X=15.02996920 Y=7.75603034 Z=-1.02000000

Vertex 7 : au niveau du point X=11.02305141 Y=13.17681706 Z=-1.02000000
Vertex 8 : au niveau du point X=14.01956049 Y=15.39055099 Z=-1.02000000
Vertex 9 : au niveau du point X=12.72996930 Y=17.13614095 Z=-1.02000000

Please look at my Blue PLine with ONLY 6 Vertex ! ... The Area is OK ...

So I draw a NEW RIGHT One with the BPOLY Command ... See my DWG ...

Such polylines can be fixed by _MAPCLEAN (Drawing cleanup):

Using your drawing that you uploaded in Post #3 of this thread, the area of both building footprints have the same area. No modifications to either footprint was made. See image below.

1.png

Try the hatch method:

  1. Hatch the bulding footprint on the left=>select the hatch and view AREA in the Properties Palette.
  2. Hatch the footprint on the right=>select the hatch and view AREA in the Properties Palette.

Using the hatch method, how do the footprints compare? Is one larger? Which one? Or are they the same?

Please share your method or the formula to calculate the floor area?

look at your dimensions   right side  fourth decimal place    3 in one 4 in the other  should be a clue.
