My MAP 3D keeps crashing. Autodesk sent me a product update but when I try to install the update I receive an error stating that the update cannot be installed being it was installed by other means. This update has never been installed previously. Has anyone experienced this?

Thank you

Hi,

>> Autodesk sent me a product update

Which update did they send? Any URL or info about the source?

>> I receive an error stating that the update cannot be installed

>> being it was installed by other means

Please show us a screenshot from that message.

When does it crash and what actions made your Map 3D crashing?

At least: which service pack for Map 3D 2011 do you have installed now, which graphic card do you have (and driver version could be important), which operating system is your workstation running?

Hi Mark,

is the map 2011 the only AutoCAD Version you have installed, or do you install a higher version too?

In some sitution the higher Version demage the fdo-Providers of the older Version.

Thank you Thorsten!

ACAD Map 3D 2011 is the only version I have.
I also have Autocad 2013, MEP 2012, Civil 3D 2014 and Rivet 2016 which should not cause an issue with MAP update

Hi,

So you are already up-to-date 😉 That might be the reason why the installer tells you it's already installed (is that the message you get?)

As you do have Civil 3D 2014 (and so the Map 3D 2014 functionality), why do you use 2011 then?

You are speaking about the _MAPIMPORT command or do you use _MAPCONNECT to just display the shape datasets?

In case of real import:

  • does Map 3D crash every time you start _MAPIMPORT?
  • did you try different shapes (from different vendors) or just with a specific shape or with shapes from one creator?
  • have you deleted the IDX file from the shape dataset before importing (should be done if the shape was written from a none Autodesk prpduct)?
  • do the shape datasets contain a PRJ file? If so, does the import crash also when you move the PRJ file to another folder so the import does not find it (this is a check in case of incompatible coordinate systems)?

Thank you! I am not sure why Autodesk says I need an update when I have the latest already installed.

I am using MAPIMPORT

I am not sure of PRJ file. I will have to look into this further, as well as the IDX file.

Thank you for your professional insights

Hi,

MAPIMPORT uses to FDO-Provider too, so it's the same Problem.

Alfred could be right with the incompatible coordinate system.

The PRJ file contains the coordinate system of the SHP file.

When you move it Map will get the SHP coordinates as they are, without any transformation.

Also the IDX file could be corrupt. IDX files are generated by Map itself, so you can delete them without any problems.

If it works without the PRJ file you have to ask for the right coordinate system and you can select the best one inside the

MAPIMPORT dialog.

What means Map crashes? Only a message or total program Exit?

Do you have a screenshot of the message if it exist?

What happens, when you make the MAPIMPORT in using Civil 2014?

Does Civl 2014 also crashes?
