XREF issues

Hello,

Hoping someone has seen this before? Drawings had been working fine, so I am not sure what happened in the last few days to break them.

Background... We have our main users running full AutoCAD and non-heavy users running LT. We create a "BASE" drawing with "attached" xrefs for various structural components so we can work on these drawings as individual drawings. Then create one "MASTER" base drawing to reference into all of our floor plan views. We then get everything we need without the need to reference multiple individual drawings.

I know everyone hates using attached xrefs, to this point has not been an issue. I am not certain it is the issue here as other projects we are currently working on are fine. Its just this one project.

Our issue....

In Autocad 2021 Full, the XREF's are present and displayed as expected without issues. Open the same drawing in LT and the xrefs are "Unreferenced" and missing in the drawing.

I have ran audits, recovery, purge, the normal steps and nothing is getting it. Next step, unreference everything and rebuild.

Thoughts? Simple fixes?

Thanks,

Dustin

Hi,

this should be impossible so far you are talking the same (master.)DWG.

"Unreferenced" means that all references to this xref deleted.

For example: Attach an dwg file as via XREF, then delete the visible newly inserted part of the drawing - thats one (and in this sample the only) external reference of this xref.

Q: Are you talking about DWG xref?

Q: Are these "Unreferenced" xref are nested inside another xref, or are they directly attached?

Hmm, never saw this before.

Is it possible to share the master and all "Unreferenced" and if also listed: not found xref files?

Thanks CADffm,

The XREF's are DWG's referenced into the base drawing from the same folder.

Example:

XBASE (main base drawing)

STL01 (first floor steel background)

STL02 (second floor steel background)

These are all DWG's and the STL drawings are referenced into the XBASE as attached XREF's.

We then have "SHEETS" S1.01, S1.02,.... The XBASE drawing is referenced into these sheets and we control display with LAYER STATES.

All that said....

I completely removed all xref's from this projects XBASE, saved the file. Went back through and attached the references, reset all of the draw order and layer settings. Drawing S1.01, S1.02, then was fixed.

Not exactly sure what broke the references, but issues resolved.

Thanks,

Dustin

Hi @dalbaughQBXKH,

I have seen this occur when the file location is not accessible at the time the file is loaded. This is most often due to permissions or latency, such as a network drive or cloud service.

The following Autodesk Knowledge Network (AKN) article provided suggestions:

External reference (xref) file is missing or unresolved in AutoCAD

you seem to be describing a pathing problem, nothing more: the locations of the XREFs is not instantly available at the start of the LT session.

Start both programs and explore pathing for those XREFs.
