Trouble with copy and pasting mtext with field values.

Hello!

I have recently ran into a problem with being able to copy and paste an mtext that includes a field that is linked as a  formula to a datalinked cell. Whenever I copy the mtext and paste it elsewhere throughout the drawing it automatically clears the formula for the field linking it to the corresponding datalink.

I have included screenshots of the formula clearing for reference. Is there anyway to fix this?

How about using the actual AutoCAD COPY command instead of copy(Ctrl+C) & paste(Ctrl+V)?

Hi,

>>"an mtext that includes a field that is linked as a formula to a datalinked cell"

Right, but all other field which refering to an spezific object in a drawing too.

>>"Whenever I copyclip the mtext and paste it elsewhere throughout the drawing it automatically clears the formula for the field linking it to the corresponding datalink."

Explaination: You are using windows clipboard, what happen behind the scene is

1. You export your copyclip to another new file!

2. Inside this temporary new file, the field target (the table object) is missing, the field is faulty and the "field-link" brakes.

3. You paste the already broken field to your copyclip-sourcefile (or any other file)  and see the broken field-link.

>>" Is there anyway to fix this?"

Now you know how it works and why it doesn't work, so the answer is No.

Solution: Find another way to do what you want to do.

- Inside the same space:

COPY command, the AutoCAD command to copy objects

- Space across:

You can create a BLOCK with the object what incl. the fieldcode, place new blockreference (option: explode them)

Or you can re-create the item incl. the field,

   a) copy the fieldcode - if it is faster than to use the GUI again

   b) re-create the object which contains the field to where you want to have a copy and paste the fieldcode or create a new by using the dialog.
