SPECIAL SYMBOLS CHEAT CODES

OK folks I realize a pretty simple answer to most of you and I almost feel guilty for asking I have just spent an hour and a half trying to look it up online but I can not find the quick key strokes to put diameter , center line etc.  I had a list of them taped on to my monitor but it disappeared,  When I look it up on line it tells you to go to your text editor bar, click the symbol button and then drag and drop the symbol you want into you text.  That a lot of steps to do while you are typing and cumbersome.  I know there are quick key codes to enter these symbols while you type.

For example to get        3/4" <dia. symbol> bolts @ 6" o.c.

I would type:                  3/4" %%c bolts @ 6" o.c.  (or something like that)

I know "%%U" will underline test and I though diameter was "%%c" but all i get is a "?" when I type that.  If someone would be so kind to point me towards a chart with the symbol key strokes it would surly be appreciated.

You can find the symbols in the Ribbon when you are in the mtext editor, this gives you all the common codes, if it doesn't work then clicking on 'other' at the bottom will open up the windows character map where you can select a font and then any symbols that available for that font are shown, you would just need to select, copy and then paste (Ctrl*v) the symbol.

If it is appearing as ? then as others have said the symbol does not appear in that font. You will have to create an MTEXT object and change the font for the one symbol in there "Arial" is usually the best font to use.

Also the Ø symbol can be created by holding down "ALT" and on the numeric keypad typing in "0216" That's how I did the symbol in this reply.
