Setting up multiple saved states to display different viewports

Hi,

I have a base drawing.  I need to get this base drawing to have 3 separate types of layouts printed.  The package is quite big (50 pages) so I wanted to setup the layouts once then just turn saved states on and off so I don't need to duplicate a lot of work and make 150 pages.  Everything worked fine but the viewports.  1 of the 3 package types needs some viewports.  If I link the viewport to a layer and freeze that layer the boarder of the viewport freezes but everything else inside the viewport stays on.  Is there a way to link the viewports to a saved state so that you can control the all the viewports at once?

There is no "linking" feature for LayerStates / Viewports in the program:

Basic AutoCAD functionality you may be missing: is ALL layers are thawed and on in modelspace, then every viewport in every layout in that DWG file can display/show its own unique VPFrozen/VPThawed layers that can be different from any other layout viewport

So for each page if I wanted to print a different saved state I would have to go into each viewport and switch the visible tag to yes or no?   This is probably more time consuming then setting up a separate layout two more times.

If you only wish to use viewports in layouts exactly like modelspace, then yes, it is a total waste of time to be in paperspace in the first place IMHO, you should stick with using modelspace then.

Paperspace/layouts with viewports are best used when you "set it then forget it"  by creating more than one layout with unique viewport settings in each for every scenario you may need on a project: you do this once at the beginning, then reuse over and over again. Combine this with SSM (SheetSet Manager) and we all then have total access to full sets of drawings we can publish as a set all day long.

Remember, in AutoCAD, automation is best used when you pre-plan for your needs.

If you have a different experience with a different software that worked the way you describe, it might be a good time to switch back to that if possible.
