Selected elements not shown in dashed lines + strange mouse performance

Since I upgraded my AutoCAD last year I started having problems with my shoulder due to the mouse acting funny when selecting elements (it's not as fluid as it used to be). I did all the operations suggested by Autodesk but this didn't solve the problem. I also changed the selection from highlighted to dashed but the selected elements are not shown as dashed. Any ideas?

Sadly this means nothing to anyone over here: can you elaborate further?

It's hard to explain but when I try to select something and the mouse gets close to the object it becomes slower and almost stops just before so takes some effort to select anything.

Do you need to turn off any running osnaps first?
Do you need to scroll/zoom in a lot closer to make a selection?

Do you need to hit that F9 button to toggle off SNAP command and its setting that only appear while you are running a command?

I don't use F9 at all. It's off all the time. I think I solved the problem of the mouse.

Any ideas about the selected objects displayed in a dashed line?

So what was the fix?

Your video card choking perhaps: turn off hardware acceleration to see if that helps.

I don't know at the end. I changed few settings over few days. It wasn't the video card.

Thank you for the link. It works now when HIGHLIGHT is set to 0.
