scattered text when opened in older version of autocad....

Hello all,

We have ran into a very annoying problem in our firm.  I use Autocad LT 2012, and a few others do as well.  Some people use autocad 2000 (full version).  We have ran into the problem of text being scattered, as well as leaders.  The problem only exists if someone using the 2012 LT version creates the text.  The problem is enhanced if a leader was created with text.

When opened in the 2000 version of Autocad, the text sometimes changes its justification, and if a leader was used the text sometimes flips to the other side of the leader, and the leader cannot be adjusted, or in most cases, not moved at all.

If I open up the same file that appears to be messed up in a 2012 LT version, the text and leaders look/work just fine.

Is there a simple fix to this problem?  Any solutions or suggestions are much appreciated!  Thank you in advance for your advice (if any!)

-Matt

Text handling changed with 2007 versions of AutoCAD.

Only workaround out there other that'll the obvious (everyone needs to be using closer Verizon's of AutoCAD) is for higher version users to get in the habit of invoking -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command (there is a dash in the command name) to properly convert files down to r2000 or r14 DWG formats for the lower version users all the time.

When you use the -EXPORTTO AUTOCAD command is this the same as saving it to older version. I have my computer set up to save automatically to autocad 2000. I am guessing this command actually converts the version to be functional. Have you noticed any problems with anything unrelated to text after you convert it?

Also, will there be two separate files or will the converted file be the same as was opened prior to converting?

Yes there will be two separate files.
If setting SAVE to 2000 was the only 'perfect' way for you to find out the best way to share files with your colleagues I would not have wasted my time replying to your post 🙂
