reference an area of the modelspace within the same drawing file

Hi,

is it possible within modelspace of the same drawing to reference an area and move or copy it around, kind of like a

selfupdating block ?

i.e. I have section elevation plans all in the same drawing. I want to copy an area (say the plan) under a few elevations and sections

so I can line up walls windows etc. but if the plan changes I need to re-copy these. I know I can do it with xrefs using different drawing files

just wondering is it possible to do it within the same drawing?

thanks,

S

XREF command is the proper method: you reference the plan DWG file in the elevations and sections dwg files respectively. Any changes to the plan will get updated in the other DWG files when prompted.

No, you don't do this in the same file and you never put all your eggs in one basket like that: imagine a system or program error where you will end up loosing ALL your plan, elevations and sections becuase you wanted to save a couple of minutes.

Thanks Dean, I agree thats the cleanest way especially for larger jobs but for smaller jobs I dont want complicated xref structrures. Thanks anyway.

u can use the layout as model space to do that ....

ie:  in the layout,  make rectangle  viewport  scale 1:1 (put in it the plans you want ),
than make all your projections (elevations or sections ..)

and if the plans are updated you can easily modify the elevations and sections ,,,,
the same as X-ref ..
