QDIM command

Hi - anyone besides myself find the QDIM command completely annoying and almost completely useless and completely infuriating that if you run MEASUREGEOM, complete the dimension needed, hit spacebar to repeat last command, and CAD runs QDIM, instead? Is there a way to block this command from executing automatically? Thanks in advance!

I can't make the spacebar execute QDIM after any command, including MEASUREGEOM, except for QDIM.

what if you precede the command with a period like this:

.MEASUREGEOM

I usually just click the "measure" pull-down, skip over the quick dimension feature because usually what I need isn't anything qdim is going to give me, and hit the measurement button below it.  As far as I know, for every other command on the tool bar, if you hit the space bar, it repeats the last command - not so for measuring - it runs qdim even if measuregeom was the last command executed.  I might try setting up a shortcut on my mouse - shouldn't have to do that but anyway...

Can you show us your measure "pull down" on mine there is no QDIM, everything is just measuregeom. See the image below

Perfect, we all have that too. How do we trigger QDIM like you do when selecting one of these choices please:

1) Do you have problems selecting other pulldown menu items like these too?

2) If you slowly hover your mouse cursor over one of these icons, then click/release the mouse button to select it without moving your cursor away from the button for the entire action, does QDIM start up of does the command you chose start up?

Hi again - if I move mouse over each or any of those commands then click, it'll execute the command I was over, not QDIM unless mouse was pointing to that icon. That's how I get to MEASUREGEOM - I have to skip over QDIM to get to it

Great. So there is nothing wrong with clicking on icons to activate commands.

Are you by chance deciding on your own to call the yellow lines that appear whenever anyone starts MEASUREGOEM as "QDIM" by chance?

pendean_0-1713212895559.png

That's called QUICK MEASURE

pendean_1-1713213037674.png

QDIM is not related at all, never has been

pendean_2-1713213223859.png

AND... Did you also know that those buttons call MEASUREGEOM command then a sub-option, and for as long as AutoCAD has been around you can NEVER call back a command/sub-option with a tap of the spacebar or <enter> key? You can right-click to select the button again from a right-click pop-up menu if it was last used, or reselect the button from th4 RIBBON. I suspect that you are trying to do this, which the program does not offer as a solution.

Let us know if I understood your issue correctly.

In my humble opinion, it'd be much better if it worked like, for instance, the dimension command...default is "linear", if I want "aligned", I choose that, then, every time I hit the space bar immediately after that (or, yes, right-click and repeat last command), it does "aligned" again.  It's just added steps to have to skip over something you don't want, and, extremely rarely use.  Eats time.

That's a command called DIMLINEAR (and DIMALIGNED), the buttons for them call those specific commands.

back in the old days they were not, you had to call DIM command first, then called HOR or VERT or whatever to get the sub-options. And back then if you just tapped the spacebar or <enter> you got no where either.

MEASUREGEOM is one command with all of these options

pendean_0-1713214958569.png

If you only ever what to use those options, then you need to replace those RIBBON icons with the old commands instead, then like DIMLINEAR, simply tapping the spacebar will repeat them

and in some cases just starting commands that do not just have easy reporting 'measure" options.

You could also automate with LISP too.

How would you like to proceed, keeping in mind the RIBBON as it exists today will never do what you want when using those MEASURE buttons.

Right - have done it both ways - it's an "old habits die hard" kind of thing - spacebar to repeat last command - 'cept it - - - - doesn't 😂

Actually it is: it is repeating MEASUREGEOM command.

Not the sub-option.

It is repeating MEASUREGEOM command.

BTW, to turn off QUICK MEASURING so you never see it, start the MEASUREGEOM command, go into the MODE sub-option, answer NO to the question

This is what is behind those buttons in the RIBBON if you want to know more, the circled is the only thing that repeats with the tap of the spacebar or <enter>:
