QA cad drawings checklist

I would like to set up a quality assurance/control type of checklist for company cad drawings. This checklist would be used to check for drawing standard compliance.

I understand that there are many variances of "company standards" and not all are the same, but this site seems to be comprised of very competent users. Any information would be appreciated.

Full AutoCAD provides such an automated tool, in LT you will have to rely on manual review of each file one step at a time. Cad Manger discussion area has several threads about office standards and standards checking if you want to try a search. -- Dean Saadallah Add-on products for LT http://www.pendean.com/lt --

Do you mean a checlist to be sure things like toilet blocks are on the plumbing fixture layer (i.e. CAD organization)? Or do you mean a check list to be sure things like north arrows and client names and room names and so forth are on the drawings (i.e. information not CAD organization)? These are two different things and even full AutoCAD cannot do the latter.

If you want to do the latter, and work in the Architecture/building design field, check out the SFIA (San Francisco Institute of Architecture) web site. They have continuing education materials that contain great checklists for makiing sure the necessar informatin is on the drawings. These are manual checklists, but in the end professionals should never rely on a computer to do the final check.

Jeff: The latter would be preferred. I agree with the last statement. This is strictly a manual review. Computers are only as efficient as the operator. I will be checking out the SFIA web site for any help.

Thanks for your help.

Dean: Thanks for the direction. I not trying to review/audit each cad file (.dwg), instead I'm looking at each completed drawing (paper) and looking for ways to increase efficiencies buy decreasing deficiencies or suggesting alternate methods.

Cad operators should continually try to learn more about this program and this checklist (which may turn into a weekly cad "tip of the day" ) may be one way to open their eyes (right, LOL).

My oh my. As a construction superintendent, I wish more architects & drafters would do this.
