PUBLISHING DRAWINGS / LAYER MANAGEMENT

Hi,

I had this problem regarding publishing drawing file. I've been doing publishing without problems until i encounter this. I know layer management and how it works in paper space  before publishing, but recently the pdf output i published shows layers that was not supposed to show up.Can somebody share why this could happen and what needs to be done  to fix such problem? I'll appreciate any info.

PUBLISH command does not alter or change layers: perhaps you are doing so inside the PDF viewer (if you exported layers as part of the PDF file creation)?

Hi Dean,

Thanks for reminding me about the power of the pdf viewer, it almost solved my problem. Except that it won't completely turn off some layer (please see the attached image showing the pdf viewer), where you can see (layer visibility toggle) that there were layers currently turned off. Now looking at the drawing itself, you will notice bits of tiny tick marks all over that is part of the DIMENSION layer which is turned off. 

I'm still trying some other things but nothing is working.

So OFF and FREEZE do different things in AutoCAD/LT: this translates to PDF, or it could. An OFF layer does not FREEZE all the content is perhaps the problem?

Already tried those things but none worked. Been wondering if the Xref drawing had something to do with it.

It may be: Can you POST a PDF with this problem, walk me through how to replicate the problem (which layers to turn off etc.)?

I don't know if i can explain it clearly but, this is how it is: (referring to attachment Captured XRef);

 this is the original file from the designer. I am guessing he made a block out of the floor plans and inserted  it to this drawing  then made the annotations  etc...Now, (referring to the attachment Working File); this is obviously the file i am working now with the Xref plan as you will notice thru how it is highlighted. Then, what i did is turned off / freeze those layers that i don't need (in model space), then in the paper space, I turned off those layers in the Current VP too (see attachment Capture Paper Space). Then publish the drawing and the result is the one i am not expecting ( i'll post another pdf of the drawing output ). But i hope this would give you more visualization of what was happening.

Hi,

Yes it's still my problem. I tried everything i know with layer management and i could tell based on what i am seeing in the paper space view. I also did regen regenall , close and reopen cad, and restart my pc as well. Nothing worked. If you could read my most recent post to this thread with pendean, they might help you visualize what was happening. Thanks for your concern.

With only pictures, your guess is as good as anyone else about what is going on.
If you can, post the DWG files along with PDF, or contact the original file creator by phone/WebEx and you two walk through how to make it all work on your end per your needs.

Thank you for your time and concern. So, I finally figured it out why this thing is happening. I found out that the Xref layers are not retaining the changes that i've made, so that no matter how i saved my paper space  and publish them, those unwanted layers remain. Basically I resolved it in the OPTIONS dialogue box, in the Open and Save Tab under Xrefs (check mark the box : Retain changes to Xrefs)...that's it!
