Plot background color

Hi,

How do you plot a PDF-file from a cad drawing that shows the color of background - gray for instance?

I use gray as background color to see other colors better but the PDF-file turns out with white

background which makes yellow lines for instance almost impossible to see.

Please advice,

Martti

You would need to change the background color of the viewer ;not the plot from AutoCAD.

Likely a global change of the active window thru the Desktop, Properties, Appearance.

Essentially you are asking for AutoCAD to print an entire sheet of paper in an off-white color. That would be a shload of ink if it went to press.

PDF is electronic paper: paper is white for publishing/print, unless you are creating church bulletins 🙂

Since Acrobat only does white, you will have to make the extra effort of placing a large gray (or any other color) 2D Solid or Hatch behind all of your drawings and plot to PDF. Remember, your PDF viewer (or your client's) will try and print that gray on any printer, and totally waste a lot of ink in the process.

You appear to be a candidate for DWF output instead of PDF: the DWF6 driver inside AutoCAD will let you assign any custom color for the background you desire (assuming your DWF viewer is current of course).

Thanks for the replies Charles and Dean,

I placed a gray raster image behind the drawing which solved the problem.

I will try the DWF-output, should be there since I have 2012LT.

By the way what is wrong with colored backgrounds, the share prices of ink companies

will skyrocket.
