Pasting Excel tables into AutoCAD Lt

HI!

I'd like to have a go at copying and pasting Excel tables into AutoCAD LT. I'm not after keeping a link to the original file, but I would like to keep the formatting (including number of decimal places, and whether or not a cell contains data or text). I'd also like to make sure that the displayed number carries across, and not the equation or concatinate operation that generated it.  I use Excel 14 (32 Bit) from Microsoft Office 2010, and AutoCAD LT 2011.

I understand that it is something to do with copying and Paste Special, but is there anything else I need to be doing?

Many thanks in advance,

Stephen

PS - if it's not too late to say it: Happy New Year!

Depends, you want lines/text to edit later on in AutoCAD, or an image of the Excel spreadsheet in the file?

What have you tested or tried so far? Why not find out 🙂

I'd like it editable rather than as an image.

I did give it a try (paste as AutoCAD object), and found that where the text was in a single line in the cell in Excel, it was now wrapped around within the cell. The formatting had changed

Exactly: if you want the excel formatting, you have to maintain the Excel spreadsheet and simply reference it in.

Otherwise if editing what you have is not viable then start the table in LT in the first place, TABLE command, after you design your TABLESTYLE, and create the table content in there first and always.

Let us know if you still need help with either option.

That's a nuisance.  Creating tables in AutoCAD is such a pain. Excel is so much easier, particularly as the table has been generated using a lot of formulae from minimal user input.  Having the file as a linked document isn't an option as we haven't got a document control method in place for that sort of thing.

Ah well, it looks like it is just a case of modify the table each time I post it.  Not ideal, but better than having to type it out manually in AutoCAD LT in the first place.
