Opening 2.5gb file in AutoCad Lt 2019

Hi All,

Looking for some guidance. I have a huge tender to submit by the end of next week and i am looking undertaking some cut & fill modelling.

Firstly i need to open the file in AutoCAD, however, I am having no luck.

I am using a 32GB Core i7 HP with Solid State, yet the computer is not opening the file in question - it either crashes or takes hours. I managed to open once, turned off all the heavy layers (contours/ 3d data), purged the file, turned of geo referencing and the file is still not playing ball and i think has gotten bigger? Properties shows the file to now be 3.5GB!

Not sure if i have a duff file, the wrong CAD licence, my PC is too weak or what!?

I appreciate your time in reading this.

cheers,

Jake

From the sound of it, you have the wrong tools for the job, cut and fill is in the realms of Civil3D and it has dedicated tools for doing that type of work, that you won't find in LT. LT cannot create or even edit surfaces (it can view them) and from the sound of it, that is what you need to be doing.

Besides you having difficulty, you wouldn't be able to create the necessary geometry to return anything useful back to other members in the project, if it was purely for your own use you might be able to get out some useable information but it would no doubt take a much longer time than it would by using the correct tools.

What is the originating software/source of this file?

You cannot buy a PC fast enough to do what you want, and as noted by others, LT is the wrong tool for the content you describe.

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch.

What I had planned to do was open it in AutoCad, save it as a dxf, then import it into LSS (Land Survey Software) and manipulate the 3d Surfaces and data within that programme.

Just struggling to open the CAD file at the moment which is not allowing me to continue with the rest of the operation!

I am not too sure what it was created in. I have a feeling it was AutoCAD Civils 3D.

I have also tried to down load a free trial of Civils3D, but that would not work on my PC for some reason?!

Cheers,

Jake

What about C3D that did not work? No issues for most of us.
