I'm currently using Autocad LT 2010.  I use it for Architectural 2D drafting.  I also use the "classic" workspace, not the newer ribbon workspace.  I have everything set up like I want it.  (standard and custom toolbars)   I'm using windows 7 and have concerns.   I'm thinking on having a dedicated (work) computer that is disconnected from the internet.  My thoughts are, if I get a virus that ruins my computer, I can loose everything.  I DO backup my work but if my computer crashes later, I could loose all my workspace setup and also windows 7.  In not too long I'm sure I won't beable to purchase windows 7 anymore.  I also don't like to have to pay a yearly rental on the program.  I really don't need the latest and greatest features as I'm perfectly good with 2010.  In fact, if windows 7 could have worked with my old 2000 version, I'd still be using that!  I'm just wondering how some of you are trying to hold on to your old versions of both autocad AND operating systems so they will be here for as long as possible.

Buy a Windows7 computer today, and lock it up. When your current PC dies, you dig it up and start fresh again. Repeat until you retire.

LT2010 runs on low end PCs, so for the price of AutoCAD2016 you could buy two or more replacement PCs today and put into conditioned storage for the next 20-years.

Good luck.

I did exactly that. I bought a Dell windows 7 professional desktop with 1TB hard drive for $599.99!  Great price.  I will install autocad on that machine and NOT connect the internet to it.  I also bought a KVM switch.  It will allow me to use my monitor, keyboard & mouse for both machines!  All I do is hit a switch to choose which one I want to work with.  This setup should last me many many years as I won't have to worry about viruses on my work computer.  Thanks for the recommendation!

Hello

Was wondering how the KVM switch works for you. I have  a new Dell windows 10 that I can't load my 2008 LT and was thinking of using the switch and keeping both computers like you did.

Thanks

You can try installing old LT2008 with these tips from Microsoft http://www.howtogeek.com/228689/how-to-make-old-programs-work-on-windows-10/

Or purchase a fix from these folks instead of holding on to an old PC who's days are numbered http://www.longbowsoftware.com
