Old, Old, autocad lt

I have a VERY old version of autocad lt. Release date 1993 to be specific. I am aware that I am probably the only one still using this, but I really do like it and it does all that I need to do to creat 2d drawings. I am running this on a machine with Windows XP and that is where I am having a problem. XP is getting to the point that it will not work and I do not know if my old autocad lt will run if I upgrade my OS to Windows 7 or 10.

Has anybody else had this problem?

I apprecieate any help I can get.

Thanks much,

MIchael Leffew

You are probably out of luck, but I still have an old system with WinXP on it here at home, so I can relate.

You might want to try reinstalling the OS (after carefully checking to make sure you have all the drivers to reinstall the old hardware, like video card, motherboard, nic, sound, etc. then reinstall the old Lt, as long as you still have the license info.

I would think carefully before upgrading to Windows 7 from a system that old, though. It might just turn it into scrap metal...backups are truly priceless!

Good luck!

there is no gurantee it will even work on Windows 7 let alone Windows 10

even if you could upgrade to Windows 7 is your machine capable of running it

What does the product box require, Windows 95 or Windows 3.1? That would be LT v1 from 1993. You are going to have little to no luck installing 16bit software from back in the day on anything newer than WinXP.

BTW there is a chance you may not be able to reauthorize your old software to use it. So have a backup plan.

Consult with a qualified PC service center about fully backing up your current PC as a 'mirror image" that can be easily restored should whatevewr you want to do go south.

As a test, if you know how to do this, create a new User Account in WindowsXP (full admin) and test it with your old LT version: it's likely to behave more than your old default User Account.

Thanks for the responses. I was afraid that I would hear just what I heard. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade to a later version, but I really do like the old one.

Thanks again, I appreceiate the help.
