New Install, Update, & Deployment Ideas Board

The Installation & Licensing forum has new Install, Update, & Deployment Ideas boardThcommunity will be supported by the team that provides an Autodesk portfolio of install, update and deployment tools and technologies. They build components that are integrated into every Autodesk desktop application, as well as some web technologies that you experience when downloading your software. The team also builds and maintains the Autodesk desktop app.

They are excited to start collecting your ideas for new features and functionality on this board.  As you can tell from the list above, they touch a lot of parts of the installation workflows.  Because there are a lot of terms in this domain, here are some helpful definitions:

  • Full product installation – This is when you install a major release, say AutoCAD 2019. This could be when you are using the Install Now workflow from the web, or when you start up the Autodesk installer after you have completed a download of a full product.  You can also install full products directly from the Autodesk desktop app.
  • Update installation – This is when you install a patch to a major release, for example, AutoCAD 2018.1You can download updates from Autodesk Account, or directly from the Autodesk desktop app.
  • Download – This is when you download a full product or update package from a source on Autodesk Account or Autodesk.com
  • Deployment – Many of our customers who manage multiple end users within one company distribute their software using deployment tools and processes.  Sometimes this is as straightforward as placing a package on an internal server for end-users to install themselves, and other times 3rd party tools such as Microsoft SCCM and PDQ Deploy are used to push software to end-users.

This Ideas board is yours to fill and we look forward to seeing your suggestions!

Thanks!

P.S.  Comments and suggestions that apply to individual products should be placed on the Ideas boards for those products.  This board is specific to install, update and deployment workflows.
