Mouse lag on extra monitor

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

Last month when I downloaded the AutoCAD LT 2022 30-day trial I found the cursor was lagging/delayed when using my extra monitor. We noticed AutoCAD was using the wrong graphics card. Once updated it worked perfectly....until last week when we bought and added the license. Now it has the lag/delay again (only in the drawing window) and we've tried everything we can find...

- making sure the resolutions match

- making sure its set to high performance

- updating graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro T2000)

- forcing AutoCAD to use DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 12 (GFXDX12, 0)

Any other ideas or resolutions to fix this problem??? I feel like it has to be a setting that was altered when adding the license because it worked perfectly before.

Thanks in advance!

>>>...until last week ...<<<
What else changed with your systems: something did, roll back one of your PCs to two or more weeks back and see if the issue goes away. FWIW there is no difference between the trial and the purchased version. None. Zip. Nada. The trial simply stops working after 30-days, your purchase only after your subscription stops getting paid.

What version of AutoCAD/LT did you use before? How does it behave on these dual monitors since last week?

Do you have AutoCAD spanning both monitors?
Or are you running a separate session of AutoCAD on each monitor?
Or is AutoCAD just on the second monitor? If the latter, what if you swap monitors (put AutoCAD on the other one), Still same issue?

Describe the lag in more details please, not seeing it here with any of our users and we all use dual-monitors and have done for some years now.

Also if you can post screenshots of your ABOUT and GRAPHICSCONFIG command pop-ups please.

TIA

Nothing was intentionally changed, downloaded, or updated before the issue started again. Left work Friday and it worked just fine, trial ran out on Sunday, Monday bought/added license and the problem began again immediately after.

It's a brand new computer (Dell Precision 7550) and monitor (Dell 27 4K UHD) that's only had the AutoCAD LT 2022 version.

I'm only using the laptop 1 screen and 1 additional monitor. I only use AutoCAD on one screen (preferably the monitor). Sometimes multiple drawings but typically only one session open. It works just fine on the laptop screen and only seems to have this issue on the monitor.

When moving the cursor around in the drawing window it has a delay from when I move the mouse. When it's over the tabs/menus it moves as normal.

FYI Windows updates are automatic Tuesday nights: you almost never need to do much of anything to have it install, but it takes an act of god to stop it from taking place.

So with new info (this is a laptop with an external screen attached), can you confirm make/model of your laptop, specs on the laptop, which port is the external monitor attached to, and if the cable connecting is a high end 4k cable or a cheaper "Amazon" special? 4k cable is best.

Thanks for the screenshots BTW: you are NOT running the 2022.0.1 update (restart your PC after the install, that's an important step) and you are indeed still running DirectX12 and not DirectX11, so its worth trying that change you listed in your first post again.
You can also are running in ADVANCED MODE, it may be worth trying the other two options in GPRAHICSCONFIG command. But first, ensure LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING are still turned off.

Yes the computer is Dell Precision 7550 and monitor is Dell 27 4K UHD and no its not a cheap amazon special its the 4K HDMI that came with the monitor. It is connected through a Dell Dock (WD19) I actually tried plugging it in directly to the computer and the lag/delay got even slower! ☹️

Also, you're correct I'm not running the DirectX11 because it didn't fix the problem and seeing as how I have no idea what that does anyways I didn't want to mess anything else up so I switched it back to the DirectX12.

How do I get the update you mentioned?

Also, I just tried the ADVANCED MODE switch, LINESMOOTHING, LINEFADING and it still didn't work 😞

Switch to DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 12 (GFXDX12, 0) and see if that helps.
Change the monitor cable too; they are never perfect.
Also ensure your external monitor is running at 60hz refresh rate.

If needed, install and try LT2021 as well, just ensure it is fully updated (never happens by itself).

No relief? You might reach our to Dell Support for ideas: at the moment I am mobile/on a jobsite and have an older MSSurface Book 2 with basic Intel Graphics option split-screened with a 27" monitor external monitor connected through a VGA 4k cable to the USB-C port and I see no slowness or delay in LT2022 nor LT2021 on that monitor.

DirectX11 does not help

I've tried the other HDMI ports and no help

It is running at 60hz and no help

I just downloaded the 2022.0.1 and no help

Turning off the hardware acceleration helps the cursor but then makes every other action slow.

My exact setup (computer, monitor, cord, and everything) worked perfectly before logging in. Also this entire setup is only a month old so there's no reason it shouldn't be working properly all of a sudden. I can try reaching out to Dell but I really don't see how this isn't an AutoCAD setting.

And what about testing with LT2021? Your license includes access to the older versions for free.

>>>...worked perfectly before logging in....<<<
We all have log in: it is a prerequisite for using the software.

Autodesk Support is reached through your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/home/ (click on the ? icon to get started)

When I say "log in" I mean logging into my paid subscription vs the free. I fully understand you've explained there is no difference between the two however...that is the ONLY difference and change in AutoCAD settings between when it did work and when the problem started.

I've only used 2022 and there was no problem before so I know for a fact that the 2022 can work since it did it for the last month. Could logging in have reverted back to an old setting or changed a setting I'm not aware of?

The only "support" I've found through that site are these forums and that has led me to here.

Honestly the only solution I see at this point is deleting the entire Autodesk Software and reinstalling.

Truly, I apologize if I'm coming across with an attitude. I am just beyond frustrated and do not understand what in the world happened between when my "working perfectly fine" trial ran out and my "began with an issue" subscription started.

I have a Thinkpad Carbon Extreme with an Nvidia 1050GTX, when working on the native 4k display with runs perfectly, but from time to time when using the external 2k monitor it becomes sluggish, I've tried different settings and it just randomly happens again, the workaround I've found is going to the graphics settings, turn off the hardware acceleration, then turn it on again and it will run fine for some time. It would not even make sense since the resolution is half the one in the internal monitor, that's why I realized it could only be a bug.

@emanueljfaria There is no fix for "from time to time" and "randomly": wish there was.
Find the trigger: is after a long day of using AutoCAD/LT exclusively?
Is it when you hot-plug in the extra monitor? Or just never use it all day?
Or... ?

Your fix (toggling hardware acceleration) would simply indicate your system/video card is failing to use the second monitor at that moment for some reason yet to be discovered. The program has no ability to fix a system issue.
