Missing File Icons From DWG Files - AutoCAD LT 2020

Hi everyone,

I've just installed AutoCAD LT and am having some trouble with regards to my files. As you can see from the photo below, my DWG files are missing their file icons. Although not a massive problem, it makes it very hard to differentiate between BAK and DWG files when in a folder.

I have tried everything (that I can think of). I've changed the default software that opens the file to DWG launcher. All the files open okay. If anyone knows who to solve this problem, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Turn on file extensions in Windows File Explorer, start AutoCADLT, open a file, close it and the program, then restart your PC, see if that helps.

If not you can reinstall AutoCADLT or just assign the image in Windows like this https://www.maketecheasier.com/change-file-type-icon-in-windows/

Thanks for your reply. The first solution unfortunately didn't work. I think I'll try completely uninstalling AutoCAD as you suggested and see if that works. I'll let you know.

Have you found a fix? I found a fix on what to do in the event you are not able to open up a drawing without a session of AutoCad running.   https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/simplecontent/content/how-to-mod...

If i set the file to open with the AutoCad 2020, it opens up to a new session every drawing i click on. If i set to open with the launcher, all is well except missing icon. explorer_d9A3NyruU1.png

Yes we had the same issue. The launcher is the program you should be using, hence our issue with the missing icons. Our company IT department worked on a solution for days, as many people within our design department had the same issue. In the end it was an issue with windows and AutoCAD when transferring between 2019 and 2020. We had to factory reset our machines to solve the issue. Even completely uninstalling AutoCAD, clearing all the cache files and the reinstalling did not work. What a pain.

DAMMIT BOY! Let me whip out a violin and play while you sing that sob story! AutoDesk will f*$k up a wet dream for sure! This is one reason while I wait before upgrading software, in the event bugs are present, found, and fixed. Here I am, last to install and I cant even make it run correctly. We are having issues with both full and LT versions.

Sort BY TYPE is another workaround: takes a little getting used but once you got it those dingy little icons start to matter less.

I will assume you know how to make that folder setting universal on your system, if not, here is a tip https://www.pcworld.com/article/2980339/how-to-customize-windows-file-explorers-details-view.html
