Lost a .dwg file

I was working  .dwg file in AutoCAD LT-2018 all day today. At 4:30 pm or so I saved it and closed it to work on another file. When I went back to my original file at 5:00 p.m. there was no file. I searched my computer and it was nowhere to be found. I found a .bak file that was dated today but at 12:21 p.m. I tried to open that file but I could not open it. It ended up with an internet explorer symbol in front of it. There are now other files in my folder with the internet explorer symbol in front of them. There are still .dwg files and pdf files in my folder. Can someone help. Here is a screen shot of the files in my folder. The one I want is "L5.00 - Irrigation Plan - revised 2-13-18". But as you can see it has the internet symbol in front of it and it will not open. I did try to put .dwg at the end of the file name but that did not do anything. Autodesk has given me an identity of "GTE8Y"

Please don't post docx files as they may contain viruses. If needs be you can post the image straight into your post using the "PHOTOS" button when you are creating your message.

As to your problem. Does your AutoCAD do automatic saves every X minutes?

If so look in "C:\Users\(Your User Name Goes Here)\AppData\Local\Temp"

You should find a .SV$ file if you do incremental saves or a .BAK or a .DWG file

If it's .SV$ or .BAK just change the extension to .DWG.

Also it sounds like your .DWG extension needs to be reassociated with the DWG LAUNCHER

Thank you hwalker (mentor) for the help. I did finally find a backup file in the temp folder (the sv$) file that did not have the internet symbol in front of it.  The back up file (sv$) was 2 days old but I was able to recreate the two days of work I lost. But it looks like all my back files still have the internet explorer symbol in front of the file name. And this is for all .bak files in  all my project folders. Is there a fix to get the internet symbol removed. When I try to click on any of these .bak files with the internet symbol, I can't open them even if I change the extention to .dwg. Thanks for any help.

Also, thanks for the tip of not sending .docx files

The above link shows you how to reassociate your drawings with the DWG Launcher, which should change the icon back

You can never open baks unless you change the extension. That's all they are. A backup of the previous version of the drawing when you saved the one you were working on

hwalker, thanks for your response. Even changing the extension did not allow me open the files with the internet exployer sysmbol. And going into DWG Launcher to re-associate my drawings did not hekp. My computer guy is finally back in town and he came and fixed the problem yesterday. I can't explain what he did, sorry. So again, thanks for your help. AnnGTE8Y
