LINE AND POLYLINE CANNOT FILLET

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all,

I'm trying to fillet line and polyline without successful. This is driving me crazy because i'm checking properties in line and is Delta 0, and polyline elevation is 0 as well.

It happens a lot and just works if polyline gets explode.

Thanks.

Without seeing the actual dwg it is impossible to see the problem, but at an educated guess one of those objects was originally drawn with a different UCS setting. There are a couple of methods to check that

-select both and use the List command and look for a line in the command history (F2) that says something about extrusion direction.

-in your isometric view, select both and in the properties palette change the thickness to 50 units and you should see one of them thicken in a different direction than the Z axis.

-start the UCS command and use the option Object, you should then see the UCS alter.

It's not something you can alter other than by changing the UCS and rotating the object about it's axis, the best fix would be to redraw.

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk community!

A few things...

  • Are you able to share a drawing file?
  • Are you getting these drawings from clients who work on other programs other than AutoCAD? You said this is happening for multiple drawings?
  • Have you verified the UCS your working?

To add;

Hi Emmsleys,

Yes i've checked UCS and it is ok. I'm attaching DWG as an example when both line and polyline cannot fillet each others.

Thanks

I can't see what it is, but there's something definitely wrong with that drawing.

I drew a polyline and got the same non coplanar message. HOWEVER just EXPLODING the polyline into a line allowed the fillet to work.

The lines are non coplanar. I have changed the unit precision to 0.0000000 and its shows the below

Specify second point o r [Multiple points]:
Distance = 9387.50000000, Angle in XY Plane = 180, Angle from XY Plane = 0
Delta X = -9387.50000000, Delta Y = 0.00000000, Delta Z = -0.00002802

I have then used the 'FLATTEN' command to move all to Z=0 and then the fillet command will work.

Exactly Jonathan, you nailed it.

I wanted to do this keeping the polilyne as it is and i just have autocad LT so despite i wanted to use FLATTEN y couldn't do it.

Apparently they are elements which come from other files made with different unit precision. Now i can see why they are no co-planar.

Now i see how autocad understands this situation.

Many thanks to all

Cheers,

if you are using the LT version. there is a quick way.  Step 1, make the line become polyline (use the  PEDIT),  Step 2, select the polyline then press Ctrl+1, in the properties window, change the Elevation value to 0.   OR, select the lines and in the properties window, change all the Z value to 0.
