I am looking for best practices when it comes to layer management in an industrial/plant setting. AIA guidelines and others are great for managing construction drawings, but not so much for what I need when it comes to laying out my facility equipment. Is there a set of standards for equipment? For now I am basically labeling everything Q-(Equipment Name)-(Equipment Part).
For example, I have complex industrial equipment (CAD dwgs from the original manufacturer) for multiple production lines. I don't necessarily need a separate layer for each piece, but I also don't want to put everything for 1 piece of equipment on 1 layer/color because it gets difficult to decipher. I also don't want to leave everything on 1 layer and change the colors manually because I know this is bad practice. Seems like I end up with a ton of layers for 1 piece of equipment which is unnecessary since I will move/edit the machinery together. Its not like I'm freezing parts of the equipment while leaving other parts on.
