Issue with converting scale in area of Polyline

Using CAD LT 2017 doing areas of polylines. When I try to get an area of the closed Polyline, I'm getting it in inches, it should be in square feet, i.e. it's not converting properly. Instead of giving an area for say 10' by 10', it's not converting it and is giving me an area reflective of inches, in this case 1 2/8" by 1 2/8" - the scale is 1/8" to 1'.

Very strange because when I sent the file to a friend, they had no issue and it reflected the conversion area properly. We compared settings under UNITS and they were the same. We couldn't figure it out.  Any ideas, have not had this problem before.

Explain the exact command or method you use to "...get an area of the closed Polyline..."?

I'm doing areas for the purposes of measuring square footage for leasing purposes. As I normally do, I draw an enclosed Polyline of a particular area of the drawing or the demising area encompassing the whole space. Once, the Polyline is done,  put my cursor on it to highlight it and then enter the "List" command, and then I get the area in square feet - actually gives me the area in inches, but to the right, it indicates the square footage in parenthesis reflective of the correct conversion.

But for these particular drawings I'm having the issue with, it's giving me the area, but it's reflecting the pre-conversion" area, i.e. the conversion factor for these drawings should be 1/8" to 1.0', however the area I'm getting is reflective of the 1/8", not the 1.0' as it usually does, so instead of being say 100 sf, it's 0.0125 sf.

UNITS need to be set to ARCHITECTURAL to see what you want to see in LIST: is that the issue?
If not, post a portion of the file with this problem, let's all have a look.

Units is set to "Architectural" - one of the strange things is that I sent the file to Architect friend and when they took areas of object, Polylines etc. it displayed the correct converted area - she did not have to change anything in the file.

How do I post the file on the Forum?

Start a blank file where you know all things work just the way you want them to work. Test to confirm.
INSERT one of these problem files into it, and EXPLODE.

Now find the area of that closed Pline: still only showing inches?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Were you able to test this issue in a new file?

If you want I can also try and take a stab at the problematic file. You'll need to come to the forums and reply not through your email.

Hi Guys - turns out I overlooked the obvious, I’m not a CAD expert but evidently I know enough to be dangerous.

The file was opening in a tab call "Layout" which had been scaled and formatted to print PDF. I saw the Model tab and even opened it, but I was so fixed on the solution being the resetting of a scaling parameter, located somewhere amongst all the different options that I simply overlooked trying to do a Polyline in Model to see if that worked – trapped inside the box, rather than thinking outside of it.

In trying to figure it out, I sent the file to an Architect friend and they did not have an issue, but they didn't think to ask what Tab I was using - they just assumed I knew better - which I know now, unfortunately.

Thanks for your suggestions and help - much appreciated.
