INTERNAL ERROR: !U:\global\src\ObjectDbx\DB\IMP\src\dbutil.cpp@870

Product : AutoCAD LT 2002
OS : Windows 2000
PC : DELL P4 - 256MB Ram
Networked : Peer to Peer / disk sharing
No third party software running I am aware of in AutoCAD.

User has been running Autocad LT 2002 for 11 months very few problems. Today started to receive the following message but only when opening up 3 specific drawings ;
INTERNAL ERROR: !U:\global\src\ObjectDbx\DB\IMP\src\dbutil.cpp@

This would happen quite regularly if opening the 3 drawings in question(Opened fifteen other drawings quite happily).
The drawing are saved on the hard drive of another idenical PC.

It would not happen if you opened them on the machine who's hard drive they were saved on ! - Coincidence or not ?

The drawings have been worked on for over 6 months.
No major changes had been made on the drawings recently other than the following ;

(Looking at other Posts on this forum) - We have used some blocks which were in DXF format (Twyfords bathroom components)

We opened the DXF Files, tidied up the blocks, and saved them as drawings. We then copied and pasted into our layouts.

These blocks have been used before and we have had no problems.

Rebooted both machines - still have the problem
I have recovered the files and found no errors - still have the problem
I have selected all, Shift selected to remove and deleted the odd text object. - still have the problem.

Is there any fix for removing the corruption from the files which always seems to open if you do it as the first drawing.

Icidently, if you search the web for the "dbutil.cpp@870" part why do other CAD systems users appear to get the same message ?

Regards, to anyone who can help.

>>>This would happen quite regularly if opening the 3 drawings in
question<<<

RECOVER command, instead of OPEN, will fix any errors. If the files have
XREFs, you need to do the same with each DWG file in the set.

AUDIT command, while in a file, also does the same thing: again, if there
are XREFs in the file, you need to do the same with each.

PURGE the file on occasion to get rid of unnecessary hang-ons may help as
well.

AutoCAD seems to recover the files OK.

But it will happen again the next time you open it.

Files are purged fully and regularly.

Does it come down to these blocks or is something else involved and how can you check ??

Content is usually what corrupt a file; several fixes include:

1- INSERT the problem files into trouble free template files, and Explode.
2- Thaw/On/Unlock all layers, Zoom out, then WBLOCK and manually select all
visible items only to create a new file. Repeat #1 with this new block.
3- DXFOUT to R2000DXF format, then start a new file and DXFIN.
4- DXFOUT to R12DXF format, be prepared to loose some R2000 specific
entities, then start a new file and DXFIN.

Thanks Dean, I will try your suggestions.

Doesnt help solve it though, or stop it happening again.

Is there anyone from AutoDesk reading this thread ?

Specific file problems tend to be the problem of the file content or file
creation method. It's too random an issue for Autodesk to address unless you
want to specifically pay Autodesk to clean up your files.

http://support.autodesk.com for contact information on paid support.
