Inability to modify text height within Leader and Dim commands

Modifications to dim and leader text size via DDMODIFY provides the ability modify text height in paper space. I have a number of drawings that show the text height in a gray shade indicating inability to modify this item. How this happens I cannot explain. When explore the Text Style of the dynamic dialogue box the Paper Text Height Size has the Annotative box checked which is what is used when employing annotative format and the Paper Text Height at 0'-0" which I've read it appropriate. I keep hitting dead ends with this challenge. Need help figuring this one out.

DDMODIFY hasn't been a command in 20-years: how old is your LT version?
Or do you mean PROPERTIES command in modern versions or something else?

Annotative text sizing is set/changed in STYLE command, you never want to do it anywhere else: assuming you just don't need to turn off that annotative feature in the first place if you never use it.

Good to know since I'm still using DDMODIFY with AutoCad Lt 2019 and it is a fabulous tool.

The annotative feature is fantastic. There's a learning curve but it proves a time saver when modifying drawing scales as a sheet layout may require modifications and resizing of drawings that affect scale. I checked out Styles and while that is a nifty dialogue box is of little help resolving the issue.

I thought this was a simple item that my caveman/Amish technology skills were not able to identify but am learning the self proclaimed tech wizards whether it be at, HP, Adobe, Microsoft, Autodesk, and feel free to add another tech giant, pretty much wing it like the rest of the unwashed masses.

Attached is the file. Help from someone who lives and breaths this stuff will be much appreciated.

Thanks for the file: what and where is it you need help with exactly in it? You do use many different text styles (and dimstyles) instead of just one of each, that might fix your issues of you did just that.

Does that mean you really don't know what comes up yet? You didn't answer my question about what this is today 🙂

Thank you for the quick response.

I'm looking to set paper space text at 3/32. If you go into DDIM the paper space text height is in gray and set at 1/8". It is not editable in this dialogue box nor in styles.

One more time: your are using annotative text style ARIAL which is already set to 3/32" text height, which is reflected in your DIMSTYLE. There is nothing to change manually.

I suspect because you've set your drawing UNITS to 1/8" all the scale representations in your file are being rounded up, since that is what you are asking AutoCAD to only show you. Chang UNITS to 1/32 or 1/64 or 1/128 and the correct sizes for everything everywhere will magically appear again.

You can make text changes under text style, but this should not be the only option since the text height has option arrows.  Same with the fractional height scale, but it too is not accessible .  Is there a selection that re-enables these options, so you done have to go to the text styles pop up since it doesn't matter if Annotative is selected or not? The other problem with the text style is that this seems to be a universal option.  I have different size dimensions for detail views.  It doesn't make sense to have to explode dimension lines when you should be able to change the property to match the desired dim and dim text size.   This really slows the process especially if you don't know what's holding you back.

Also DDmodify works just fine in LT2020.  The command pulls up properties like it always has.  Old farts like me have been using it since version 10.

@Anonymous Just like in all the old versions you've used, since nothing has changed at all despite what you think, you get to decide if you want to control text size in STYLE or DIMSTYLE commands, but you never get the option to do it in both places. Ever.

BUT... you can always use PROPERTIES (or "ddmodify") as a second option, which remains true.

In the drawing that I'm using, you can not make the text height change in properties or in DDIM.  This is not always the case.  In another drawing, I have the option to make the height change.  So, the question is what is the variable that controls this option that is not a global dimension change?

Compare STYLE command settings in both drawings: what's different? 0.25 is set I suspect.

Your correct, they are different.  If you set the Style Height to "0", then you gain control in DDIM text height, and in Properties.  You should have said that if you want to control the text height outside of Text Style, which is a "global override", set the Text style height to zero.

I thought I explained it, but my bad, I assumed as an old timer you'd know this since it's been that way forever.
