Importing PDF's

In AutoCAD LT 2018, when importing a PDF, sometimes (more frequently lately) when it imports, hundreds of PNG files are imported as External References. It seems to affect the overall performance and makes the program sluggish. When I open the External References Palette it takes very long (sometimes 30 minutes) for the palette to open. When I then try to Detach the PNG files it takes forever. If I select 20 or so files to Detach it takes very long for them to be selected and then even longer for them to delete. Is there any way to import the PDF without bringing in these PNG files?

Thanks for your help!!

You have that option selected in the pop-up for PDFIMPORT command most likely, so the program does what you ask, as they exist in those PDFs that you import:

Hi,

When starting the PDFIMPORT command

Press [F1] and learn about the command before using.

When the dialog appears, open the eyes and take a look to the dialog.

Diasbale the raster image option will not extract raster data to png files and

no image attaches to your file. The raster parts of your PDF will be ignored.

In addition to replies #2 or #3 - here is WHY this is happening.

@stephenappel  - PDF files can contain vector and/or raster content. Raster content is not converted to vector, and so if imported, it simply brings in a raster image. You may find that when you uncheck the option mentioned in the above replies, that none of your content is imported. In that case, your PDF document was likely scanned in. Raster to Vector is a totally different thing if that is what you end up needing.

Thank you all!! I was aware of the option to not import raster images but didn't realize that PNG files were considered raster images. Just tried importing the same image that took forever to import last night with that option checked and it worked great!!

Hi everyone.

I am hoping you can help with my PDF import issue.

Autocad LT 2020

Usually when imorting a pdf, it simple, PDFIMPORT select the page and import.

But now when doing this I only get one sheet shown, so cannot select anything other than sheet one, and there are no options shown in dialogue box as you can see below:

I am able to download as an underlay but then cannot explode this to work on individual parts of the drawing.

If I download the sheet one i get NO OBJECTS FOUND.

Does anyone have an idea of how to get these settings back.

Many thanks in advance.
