importing/installing hatch patterns

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have an acadlt 2016 subscription.  I am trying to install a custom hatch pattern.  I have tried copying the new pattern into both the acadlt and the acadltiso files, per the tutorial, at the end of the files, taking care to have the appropriate clear spaces around them but when I click save I'm told permission is denied and I must contact the system administrator.  I am the system administrator.

I am running Windows 10.

What am I missing?

That's a system level issue: your Windows log-in does not allow you to edit files in those locations. No software, not even AutoCAD, will be able to change that.

Do you have an I.T. Department or person that can help you change that?

Hi @Anonymous,

Go into your Windows Control Panel for User Accounts. You should be able to see what your logon account group you have assigned. You should have it set to Administrator.

If you are already in this group, try rebooting and repeating the task without starting AutoCAD.

Please post your results.

I am listed as "Local Account Administrator".

I've been through all of the settings I can think of and am the only person on this computer with all programs in my name.  I'm obviously missing something, though.

I've just tried doing this again with AutoCAD closed and had the same result: "Access denied!"

Read this and implement http://www.ghacks.net/2014/11/12/how-to-enable-the-hidden-windows-10-administrator-account/

I would recommend you seek help from a local PC specialist if you don't feel comfortable doing all of that.

Otherwise you really ought to leave all core AutoCAD files alone, create a custom folder on your PC to house customizations and "extras": in this case create a su folder called HATCHES and place all these free downloads in there. In LT start OPTIONS command, click on the FILES tab, expand the topmost category (AutoCAD search paths) and add your HATCHES folder to that list.

Hatch files rules you must follow:
1. One hatch pattern per PAT file.
2. PAT file name must be exactly the name of the pattern.
3. There must me a blank line at the end of the hatch definition code inside each PAT file.
Yes, you can edit PAT files with Windows Notepad.

Hi @Anonymous,

Please check @pendean's prior post. His suggestion of isolating your user hatches is an excellent one and one that I typically use myself.  Please post your results so others might benefit.

THANK YOU!  This worked!

And what a simple solution - it took all of five minutes.  I've spent over two hours on the phone since yesterday with Windows 10 support to no avail.  This was a breeze!

Is there a way to add this solution to the Volker Cocco tutorial on adding hatch patterns?  I'm sure as other people make the switch to Windows 10 this will come up again.

Thanks again,

Cathy

Hi @Jasmith60,

HPNAME is the default hatch pattern. You can type HPNAME at the command line and set it to . (period).

If that still does not work perhaps there is a bad name in the hatch pattern. Can you attach the hatch pattern file and i can take a quick look?

I'm no longer as tech savvy... where do I do this? Do I change the name of the hatch in notepad where the code is for the hatch pattern. And then doesn't the,.pat file have to have the same name?

Hi @Jasmith60,

Yes, you can open the PAT file and change the name inside the file. The file name should also match exactly the hatch pattern name you just modified.

 Capture.PNG

Make sure there is an extra line return at the end of the pattern definition in the file.

HI @Jasmith60,

Can you share your hatch pattern with me so I can see what might be causing this error?
