Import/insert SVG file format into LT 2016

Hello there;

Can anyone tell me if AutoCAD LT 2016 supports the SVG file format.  I have been trying to insert a drawing file,  without success.

Am I missing something,  or is this format only supported in the 3D AutoCAD versions?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

All the best,

Mark P

No, you're not missing anything. You'll need to convert the image to jpeg, png, etc. because svg files are not supported (not even with Raster Design).

Thanks Darin;

I saw tutorials on inserting SVGs.  Is this only available with the 3D version?

Hi,

>> I saw tutorials on inserting SVGs.

Which tutorial have you seen, can you show the link please?

>> Is this only available with the 3D version?

No, SVG import is not an option for any type of AutoCAD (without development or installing a 3rd party app)

Again, AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT doesn't have this functionality built in. That being said, If you had the full version of AutoCAD 2016 or 2015 you could use >>this tool<<.

Please disregard the last sentence in my previous post. With the assistance of @Alfred.NESWADBA, we determined that tool will not allow you import SVG files either. Also, it's not even for AutoCAD LT.

To be clear, AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT does not support SVG files.

Hello everyone,  and thank you for the replies which you have posted.

I asked the question because I need to import graphics files into AutoCAD,  preferably in SVG format.  I searched on the internet,  and found a description,  including screenshots of the initial menus,  which purported to describe how it was done.  As the insert menu shown was slightly different to LT's insert menu,  I wondered if it was something available in the 3D version.

However,  to judge from the replies,  it is not possible.  I have carried out the same search on the internet again,  in order to try and include the entry that I found,  so that members here can judge it.  But unfortunately,  it does not come up now,  so I cannot add it here.

Thank you to all those who took the trouble to answer my query.

All the best,

Mark P

Hello All,

This was very helpfull, but could you define the limitation of autocad with regards to Brand Graphics that are needed to be in technical documents but in high resolution?

AutoCAD is not an image editing tool.

AutoCAD is not a technical 'words + images' technical document editor.

Sort of like cars can't fly, but you can pretend they do if you waste a lot of time and money buying so many add-ons and working around huge technical issues to make them. Instead of just hopping on an airplane.

A bit late to reply but how come no one mentioned that you can convert your svg to dxf and import it. Use for instance Inkscape.
