How to view active angle of rotation using Dynamic Input

I seem to remember that I used to be able to view an active rotation angle during the rotation process. You click Rotate, select the objects, pick a point to rotate around and then rotate. At this point the rotation angle would show in the Dynamic Input box so if you were randomly rotating you could see what that relative angle would be, then if you liked that angle you could either click Enter or type in a more precise angle. The input box is fixed at 180.0º I can type in a sepecific angle here, or use the dropdown menu for Copy or Reference.

I can see this when I draw a line where the length and angle boxes (sorry I don't know the technical terms here) and before I select the second point the rubber band effect shows actively changing lengths and angles.

So am I imagining that I used to be able to see this angle change when rotating? Or am I confusing the two?

Using Autocad LT 2013. Thanks for any information.

DSETTINGS, Dynamic Input tab and all the Settings... options there.

Explore and test what you need.

Sorry, no joy. I tried all of the settings under Dynamic Input and there is no change, the angle is not showing. Can you be more specific as to what selections are needed?

My DSETTINGS are in the first bit of the screencast

Is where I entered 37 what you are looking for?

Same settings you show but did change Cartesian to Polar. The only change is not the input is showing 60 instead of 180.

If I uncheck Enable Pointer Input I can no longer do anything at the Cursor (makes sense).

Under Pointer Input Settings... If I check the first button under Visibility the prompt is not there by is accessed from the secondary menu at the cursor.

If the second button is checked then it shows at the Cursor as the screencast shows.

So you still are unable to place an input for the angle at the Cursor location?

I am looking for a more free-form way to see the angle instead of entering a set number. For instance, when I draw a line I pick the first point, then when I move the cursor around there are little boxes that show the changing length and angle as I move the cursor around. I can then pick an arbirary point or enter a length and angle for the next point. I think it's called rubberband?

So what I am asking is there a similar readout for rotation when I am not sure what angle I want. I can select the object and point of rotation then move the cursor around to see what looks right, the readout would tell me what that angle is, I could then opt to use it or enter another number. Now I have to choose an angle amount, if that doesn't look right undo and try again. should it be 20º or 25º or maybe 30º? Sometimes I want to be more exploratory.

What is your DYNMODE set to?

You may want to turn OFF Polar Tracking (F10) and look at  those settings under the DSETTINGS window.

You can get to each of these System Variables form the Tray settings at the bottom of the workspace.

Thanks Charles, yes I can enter a specific angle at the input with no problem. But that is not what I am asking. Do this:

With Dyanmic Input on select the Line command and click to place the first point of the line. Now move the cursor around without placing the second point. You can see a blue highlighted box showing a variable number representing the potential length of that line. In addition there is a light color box showing the angle, this number changes as you move the cursor around. In the attached file that number is 17.9º. This is what I am looking for with the rotate command, something that shows the changing angle as I rotate it around a point.

Yes, I know I can enter a set number for the rotation, I was just looking for a way to eyeball a rotation and get an idea of what the angle might be before I enter a number.

There is no DYNMODE display feature to do what you seek with ROTATE command.

But you can cheat the system if you are willing to use a Dynamic Block.

Katie,

I thought there used to be this function that was displayed at the cursor also but apparently not. The other way to see what angle you are rotating your object mid command after picking your rotation point is to set your 'COORDS' to 2. Then when you rotate you can see what angle you are rotating in the coords display at the bottom of the screen.

Cheers, John.

This was bugging me, too -- used to see the angle, length of a line and such when the command was underway, and this was lost when making the jump from AutoCad LT 2011 to LT 2016.  So useful in a variety of situations -- want to see what various angles look like before committing to one [that will be manually entered].

Problem solved by turning on coordinates, accessed by button in lower RH corner.  Now the information is displayed in the coordinates box on the bottom.

On my screen it is on the lower RH corner and shows as a button with three horizontal lines.

Mousing over it, a flyout says, Customization.

I checked the Coordinates on at the top.  check on coordinates in Acad Lt 2016.jpg

I finally got back to this discussion. The last two answers combined solved my issue. Thanks!

1. Type COORDS and set variable to <2>

2. Expand the Customization button in the lower right corner (3 horizontal lines)

3. Check ON Coordinates, the top item in the popup list

Now I can see the angle of rotation.

Hello from the future : )  Yah, I know for sure that not all that long ago (like here in 2023, just weeks ago seems like), in my ACAD2017 that I still use quite a lot, I was able to see the rotation angle 'actively' right next to the fly-out (that now just shows "0" stuck in the blue digit box...not useful); I used it to quickly 'eyeball' rotation angle all the time.  At any rate, the Customization > Coordinates check-box process, does at least get me the coords reading out at the bottom of the screen, so the basic angle functionality is there again.  Thanks for this thread.  --CharleyH in Colo

turn on the coordinates in the Status bar.  (three lines at the bottom right of the status bar)  AutoCAD will display polar coordinates in line command and an angle when in rotation command
