Having trouble with pre-2009 drawings in AutoCad 2009LT

For some reason when I open drawings created with older versions of CAD in my new Autocad 2009 LT certain things are missing, mostly text blocks (MText?). Has anyone had this happen, and does anyone know how to get these text items to show up??

Font substitution perhaps?

Font Substitution how/what? Sorry, not sure what that means or how I can try to fix the problem based on that? Unfortunately I'm not super Cad savvy so I'm not sure what you meant by that? I tried the "Help" menu but I'm pretty sure we all know how unhelpful, the help menu really is.

The old file is looking for font SPECIAL
Your current system has no such font or font name, or it has one called that
but it's not the same. AutoCAD simply replaces one with the other, or makes
a substitution to your setup's default font using the FONTALT variable.

Or your text is an XREF, and that file is not being referenced correctly
because your system cannot access that path.

The missing Text is not xref'd in. I believe it was MText from Autocad 2006?

Is there a way to get this text to showup in 09 LT? I can probably get/find whatever I need from an 06 copy if needed?

Anyone have any ideas how to get this text to showup? Sounds like I'm no the only one having this issue. I tried installing all 3 service packs and it didn't help.

When I open this file (and all my other files) in AutoCad 2006 LT all the text shows up, when I open it in AutoCad 2009 LT most of the text at the end of leaders and in text boxes does not show up. Again, I think these were all originally created with MText but I'm not certain?

Your sample has three lines of text: one at the end
of an arrow, and two in a box. All three are TEXT, not Mtext. All three are AHA
text style, Romans.shx font, 9" high.

You have one leader with no text attached to
it.

Your file has 26 deletable registered apps, lots of
similar layer names (FP-TEXT and FP_TEXT), no errors.

Did I miss any other text in your
sample?

Yes that is right. Are you using AutoCad 2009 LT? Because in my version this text doesn't show up? It shows in 2006LT but not my 2009LT (same file, all my files have this issue). I tried installing all 3 updates and it didn't help. I tried contacting AutoDesk directly and of course they're no help unless you pay additional $$ on top of their already crazy-high product pricing (how's that for support of your product?!?).

Anyone else who's had problems with porting text in 2009 LT please let me know!

The only other issue I just thought of is that my 06 LT is Windows based and my 09 LT is on Vista? Could that be an issue with text fonts or something? Any solutions out there??

Worked fine here in LT2009, did a SAVEAS to R2004 like you had it.

Are you operating on Vista or window XP? Reading through the posts here, there are others having this or VERY similar issues with text not working right in 2009 LT.

I noticed, when opening my files in 2006 LT, that the font that doesn't work only has ONE grip point whereas all the other font that does work has numerous grip points?

I also added ALL of my fonts from my XP machine (where I have 2006 LT installed) to my Vista machine (where i have 2009 LT installed). And this still doesn't solve the problem.

Just not sure why my pieces of text don't work but they work on yours? Have you installed any other patches or done anything above the base level install job that might have made these pieces of text showup? Because that's what I'm looking for!

Forget the myth of VISTA vs. XP, it's
bogus.

one grip is TEXT, more than one is
MTEXT.

regardless of Operating System: AutoCAD 101 type
thing.

your font is SHX, Microsoft's products do not
affect them at all.

If I see them, and you do not, your LT2009 setup
may be messed up.

Time to cough up the fee to get Autodesk direct
support.

I installed 2009LT with all the default settings and haven't changed anything since. So for something to not show up on the default settings that should be showing up, I'd think that Autodesk would help without trying to nickel and dime their customers with their already ridiculous direct fee based support. It's one thing to not want to provide free training to customers, but to charge for any real product support is pretty damn despicable.

That's not true, I had Autocad 2006LT that I'd have loved to have just installed on my new laptop but it doesn't work with Vista. Which is the source of my text/font issues.

This is peer support, end users helping end users. If you want Autodesk
support you need to pay for it either by incident or by annual contract.

All software vendors do this. Look around.

Look at the LT2006 box: Vista is not listed as a supported OS.

Look at the LT2009 box: VISTA is supported.

Supported, aka, it works or does not work.

I have tons of DOS and Win3.1 software, should I blame everyone because they
do not work in Win95/98/NT4/Win2000/XP/Vista/7? err, no, that's just silly.
