freeze object's layer macro

This macro used to work.

^C^C-LAYER;F;;

It would put my cursor in the selection mode

and I could pick an object whose layer I wanted to freeze.

Now, this is what I get when I try to use it.

If anyone here works for autodesk would you please undo the last two decades of "improvements"? They are making my job a huge pain in the ass.
