File Management in Windows 10

General question, In Windows 10, is there a "popular" way to structure project files?

For example, are all project files on the Desktop? Or do some create a new folder called Projects on drive C?

Just curious, I'm starting with a fresh computer and open to new ideas.

Here is a sample of how my directories are arranged.  I always keep my data on a second internal hard drive.

D:\Lowell\Drafting Service Drawings\Company A\Company A's project number with description\dwg files

 I backup everything, including my temp directory (D:\temp) with all the .bak files, each night on an external hard drive and then unplug it.

Is there a specific Windows10 challenge that you did not have to address in Windows7 on the old PC? It's all the same WIndows, just more lipstick on that .... well, you know 🙂

Hi Dean, Nothing specific, just a chance to maybe set up my files in a different location, directory structure, etc. I was just curious if anyone had any specific tips, but it seems that most folks just create a new directory and go from there. Keep it simple. Thanks, m

Same old method you are most comfortable with works well.

Hi Dean, The frustrating thing is when you move from one machine to another all the x-refs, all the attached pdf's, all the other attachments, all have to be remapped to the new directory structure...What a pain. That's my task today 😞 m

Yes it is: Trick is not to change drive letters or folder names when you move over. Is that an option?

Sadly LT, unlike full AutoAD, does not come with a convenient separate application to repath it all more conveniently.
