Fatal Error while in Block Editor

AC 2019 Lt Win 64

Over the past week, CAD has crashed twice while I was in the block editor. The first time I was changing a hatch pattern and this crash cost me 2 hours work. The latest crash (again in the block editor) I was filleting 2 polylines. Luckily,  the file was only missing 10 min work.

In both instances the resulting recovery file contained only the actual block objects while the remainder of the file was gone as if CAD overwrote the actual drawing with the block (hope this makes sense).

I've attached an example of my regular file and also the latest crashed recovery file so you can see the differences.

Hopefully there is a simple solution to this.

Q: did you not save manually in over two hours? Or did the crash roll all of your saves back two hours?
Did your BAK file show newer content?

If you enter your Windows Log-in Temp folder and search for your autosave files (SV$ extension) and try to rename them to DWG, are they newer/show more content?

BTW no one is going to automagically find content in a 70kb file that matches a 629kb file size.

Somehow my reply yesterday vanished. Regardless

1. The bak file wouldn't open

2. The sv$ file when renamed CAD said it didn't exist.

3. I manually save on a regular basis (every 10-15 min), as I'm used to things going sideways.

The S2 file block 18-058_FP  is what I was working on and that is what was left in the recovery file as the main objects.

Ideas?

I've reinstalled the software again, but have since had another episode without the loss of info from the main file, although the recovery file wouldn't open.

1. How did you try to open it? Normally you have to have Windows File Explorer set to show file extensions, then you rename the extension from BAK to DWG, then you can open it with AutoCAD/LT.

2. How did you rename it? Review renming process noted in 1,substitute SV$ or BAK.

3. Good to know. That's a good frequency.

There is no block 18-058_FP in your recover file, it is pretty much block-free at this point. Looking at that block in the S2 file it appears you probably should start using XREF to bring in content you don't want to touch instead of using BLOCK command. That way you won't loose so much in a crash.

Try it.

1. As such, extensions visible rename .bak and/or sv$ to dwg.

That was my point the block 18-058_FP is in the main drawing. As I worked on it (in block editor) the crash occurred and I was left with what is in the recovery file (a copy of the block exploded and nothing else).

I get the xref comment, but that wouldn't work too well for us (currently). Most of the time, we get a single house file from the Arch, which can easily reproduce into 8 or more options (mirrored plans, different roofs, etc), each which could have custom interior changes. I don't want to create that many extra files if a block can handle it. 50/50.

2017 was fine.

This just seems to be an anomaly with 2019 block editor.

I am unable to replicate a crash editing your block in AutoCAD/LT2019.0.1 in Win10Pro using BEDIT or REFEDIT commands.  See attached.
