Fatal Error messages

I'm getting a fatal error message when trying to open a drawing file using autocad LT. I've been having error messages preventing me from using autocad in just the last month. This is an old version 2016 but has always worked fine. Has something changed, is it not supported anymore??

2016 should have no issues running under Windows 10. But if you recently updated to Windows 11 then you may be encountering this issue

@magnoliacad old programs on old PCs don't just suddenly stop working for no reason sadly: is the problem just this one single file?
Do you need to restart your PC?
Let us know what happened at your location or with your PC or with new or removed software on it, maybe we can notice something. Taking your PC to a repair shop may be worth it too if you don't have an IT person/friend to lean on.

When you can, also share actual images of the error message(s) please.
Also post a screenshot of ABOUT command's pop-up inside LT2016 and confirm your OS version too please.

And remind everyone here where do you store your files and how you are linked to that?

I installed autocad on another computer with windows 11 because my autocad just stopped working on my other computer that ran windows 10. After I installed autocad a couple days ago I opened up a file and no problem. Today when I tried to open a drawing file it gave the fatal error message. I rebooted computer and tried another file but same problem

This error confirms that your 2016 version has encountered the Windows 11 compatibility problem.

To try and remedy this you can

1) see if there are any 2016 updates that are still available to download or install

2) go back to installing 2016 version on Windows 10

3) purchase the latest and greatest version which can run on Windows 11

would it make a difference or would it work if I installed the 32-bit vs the 64-bit installation disk? I have both and I think I installed the 64-bit.

Regardless why go back to an even older version with 32 bit trying to run on full blown 64 os

You might also need to read through this forum to fix a fix (free or not is your choice)  https://blog.longbowsoftware.com/

Or roll back to Win10?

Either way you need to find the AutoCAD2016 SP1 update to install, it was issued to make Win10 behave https://download.autodesk.com/us/support/files/autocad_2016_service_pack_1/AutoCAD_2016_and_AutoCAD_...

Ok thanks for all the information. I fear I'll have to start a subscription now for autocad LT. BTW, do you know why my 2016 autocad LT would all of a sudden stop working on my windows 10 computer between the dates of November 1st and 18th? I was able to access and use it up to that time when I went on vacation. Did not work anymore when I got back. I had it serviced, and no one could get it functioning.

A Windows or a program update killed it perhaps: your Win11 issue might be fixable if you can find all the parts necessary to repair it (see my last reply), and if you still have your Win10 PC, they might work there too.

@andrew33 Under what context does this appear exactly?
Your LT year version and OS are what please?

2015LT OS win11
Just when I try and open an autoCAD drawing that someone else has done even if it is 2015 or older. It works fine when I open one of my own dwg’s.
This has only started recently about 4-6 weeks ago.

2015 running on win11 could be the problem:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/previous-version-support-forum/autocad-lt-2015-keep-crashing-on-windo...

But if you're certain that your old 2015LT is running properly on Win11 (which is not supported) then it could be where you're storing your dwg files since you're able to open someone else dwg.

I would also make sure the dwg format is supported by 2015:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-drawing-fi...

Could the other person open your dwg?

Perhaps share a sample dwg which you're not able to open so community can give it a try?

Hi thanks , just to clarify I CAN open my own drawings but not my colleagues drawings and he uses the same AutoCAD 2015 with the same OS .He can open mine no problem.Seems to be after a bunch of windows updates happened.

So here's a quick test. When your colleagues modify & save drawings that come from you are you still able to open them?

If after your colleagues modified & saved your dwgs and the following happens:

#1) you're no longer able to open them, then their version of 2015 is most likely adding data causing the dwg file to no longer be openable on your 2015 version. In this case I would run the ABOUT command and compare your 2015 version # to your colleagues.

#2) you're still able to open them, then that means something else is going on. Perhaps when your colleagues create new drawings or work on dwgs from another source causing the problem. In this case the next test would be for your colleagues to create a new dwg with just a few objects like LINES & CIRCLES, save the dwg & see if you're able to open that.
