Excessive RAM Usage AutoCAD LT 2017

Hello,

I am currently running a brand new Lenovo Think pad P5, 64-bit OS, 16GB Ram, Xeon Intel processor, and a NVIDIA Quadro 2000 graphics card. which should be more than substantial to run most CAD files. At random points throughout my work day, AutoCAD uses upwards of 13 GB of RAM.... causing my computer to crash and freeze. I've read previous articles of "memory leaks" but with no avail to fixing this issue. PLEASE HELP!

There is no fix for "random" events sadly: can you identify in more detail what circumstances lead up to such an event?

Hello Dean, 

Thank you for the reply. This issues typically occurs either after adjusting scales in viewports or when I save my files. our office runs through dropbox, which i noticed gets stuck on TMP files because they cannot sync. I thought at first this all might be relating to the syncing issues with dropbox because my RAM usage tends to skyrocket whenever I save my files. thoughts?

DROPBOX is not a supported file-server option with AutoCAD. It's a bad choice. Autodesk to date has no plans to support DropBox for anything other than the most basic use, file storage. They expect you to drag the file to your PC, work on it while it resides on your PC, then drop it back on DropBox when you close out of the file.

TMP files are part of the file-save process, so your conclusions are probably correct about sync issues. file-save process is as follows:
Creates a TMP file
Deletes the BAK file
Renames DWG to BAK
Renames TMP to DWG

Thank you for your insight. Supposedly I am the only one in the office who has these issues with dropbox. I will preform a test today by downloading files from dropbox and working with them off of my desktop. If this solves the issues than hopefully I can convince my boss to switch cloud storage providers. 

One of my colleagues suggested that it might also simply be a graphics card issue. however, I have an Intel HD graphics P530 which I was under the impression would be a great graphics card for CAD users. On a side note, the projects we work on tend to be around 60-80 acre subdivisions so I thought this could just be an issue of file size as well.

Intel HD graphics cards are 'neutral' in quality and not specifically great or bad for AutoCAD. But you stated in the first reply that your graphics card was something else.

Yes, dean you are correct. In my order receipt from Lenovo I did have a NVIDIA Quadro M2000, but when i checked the graphics card on my laptop it said that I have a Intel P530... I did a little bit of research and it seems like the P530 is more powerful so i decided not to say anything to Lenovo about this. Do you think the Quadro M2000 would help my problem? at this point I'm thinking it might be worth it to invest in a FirePro W5100?

Don't know, see my first reply, you never provided an NFO output for someone to troubleshoot the actual problem.

Supposedly an NFO is not a valid extension to upload as an attachment. I have run the diagnostic though, how should i proceed?

Welcome to the forums.

If you have time could you do the following, it'll help me get a better idea of why you seem to have this issue: 

• Run your AutoCAD LT in a Diagnostic startup. , Let's see if AutoCAD LT behaves the same in that environment. 
• Clear your temp folders, I noticed there were a good amount in your NFO file.
• Disable the browser, there also seems to be a good amount of corme.exe. 
• Attach a screenshot of your graphics configuration, -GRAPHICSCONFIG (AKN article)

Post back with any updates.

Hello Sarah,

When trying to disable the multiple Chrome.exe I am greeted with a message saying stopping the process will create system instability... Is there a special way that i am supposed to disable this process?

Also, I've cleared my temp folder and have attached a screenshot of my graphicsconfig. 

As far as the diagnostic startup when i clicked on that link i read"Performing DIAGNOSTIC STARTUP with Windows 10 and SSD (Solid State Drives)  may cause problems at startup. Do not use Diagnostic Startup in Windows 10 unless you have access to a Windows 10 Boot disk." So i do not think I should do this..

Do you not have a Safe Boot mode? Do you happen to have an in office IT specialist that could help assist? 

The reason I ask/urge this route is that from your NFO file there seem to be other applications crashing as well.

It would be nice to see if AutoCAD LT functions as it should in that Safe Boot mode.

1. On the keyboard, hold down the WINDOWS key and then hit R.

I do have safe boot mode option. However, I was prompted with the message "Performing DIAGNOSTIC STARTUP with Windows 10 and SSD (Solid State Drives)  may cause problems at startup. Do not use Diagnostic Startup in Windows 10 unless you have access to a Windows 10 Boot disk." I have windows 10 and an SSD so I did not think i should proceed with this. We do not have an IT specialist in the office as we are a small firm, only 5 people.

From your NFO file, it seems to be that other programs are crashing as well. As a troubleshooting option, it would be really helpful if we could just isolate AutoCAD LT and your system alone from other programs on your system.
