Error when saving. Run RECOVER

Hi, we have been working on this one file that constantly causes errors (and sometimes locks up the machine) when AutoSave runs. Twitter support says it is almost always a corrupt file. How can we safely transfer the data to a new, uncorrupted file? Will merging them retain the corruption?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community!

Apologies again for the trouble with your file. I have escalated this to case 11914289 for you and requested a call for you, but would also like to try and help troubleshoot the file in the meantime. It sounds like this is only happening on this particular drawing. If you can open another drawing, the original drawing may be corrupt and require repair. Here is how to repair corrupt AutoCAD files.

Is this error only occurring when you try to save? Have you tried exporting the model, do you get the same result?

You do have the option to copy the following between drawing if that's the route you would like to take:

  • Any drawing object
  • Blocks
  • External references
  • Layers
  • Layouts
  • Dimension styles
  • Text styles

Use RECOVER command to open the problem file, let the program fix any issues, then save and close. This almost always cures problems.
But if not, proceed to this next step afterwards:
Open a "good" file, or a new empty file, then INSERT and EXPLODE the problem file so it becomes part of this one. now SAVEAS and give it a new name. This almost always cures problems.
But if not, proceed to this next step afterwards:
WBLOCK out all the content in modelspace to create an all new file.

HI @Anonymous,

I am sorry you are having this problem. Can you attach the file so I can take a look at it? Do you use any Extended Entity Data which might be lost during some clean up processes?

Does the file have external references or image attachments? Any special fonts?

Please bundle it up and attach so I can get this taken care of for you.
