DYNMODE Variable resetting itself

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am new to Acad Lt and am currently trialing the 30 day free version (7 days to go).

Every time I open a session DYNMODE is set to 3. I am old school and do not like the additional information so turn it off / set DYNMODE to 0.

I have also tried setting it to -1 thinking that may help. I could find info saying you can set it to -1 but no info on what that actually does!

Either way it didn't fix my problem.

In all my searching for a solution the best I can see is that I need to reload Acad Lt. I would love to avoid this.

Wondered if this may be a feature (?) of the free trial??

All help v welcome. Is irritating me and don't want to take out subscription till I know what's happening.
(Will reload then if I need to.)

Thanks
Kirsty

DYNMPDE negative value means that Drafting setting is kept, but value 0 turns off the Drafting setting.

Drafting setting is that you can open by entering DSETTINGS command.

To be easy, when you turn on DYNMODE set 1, 2 or 3, You can see the above image checked box.

If you set DYNMODE set 0, the checked box will be cleared.

However, If you set DYNMODE set any negative value, the checked box will not be cleared, but DYNMODE is turned off.

Thanks sonppw. That is all clear and useful.

However it does not really tell me why dynmode resets to 3 every time I open an Acad lt session.
Is this standard?

The standard is that every drawing opened with an initial value.

Command SYSDLG can save your current system variable value to your local driver.

Look for DYNMODE, then save as svf format.

When you need load saved value, Click read and then load the svf file.

Ok - thank you for being persistent.

I thought there must be some overarching systems variable thing and I did come across some stuff on that when I was searching for an answer (may have been the SYSDLG that you mentioned, can't quite rmember).

When I type SYSDLG Acad Lt does not recongnise this as a command.

I found SYSVARMONITOR but this just seems to add a command / variable to a monitored list, so not really what I am after...

As I have not used Acad Lt before I keep thinking maybe it doesn't recongise these commands ??
Or, again, I am wondering if the free trial has certain commands / options withheld? Or maybe it is a poorly loaded / corrupted program?? Feel like I am clutching at straws for something that isn't working the way it feels like it should??

Also - when I put sysdlg in the search / help box it comes up with nothing found.

I did try SYSVAR and then entered DYNMODE. It was already set to 0, but tried that again and close session. When it reopened DYNMODE was back to 3...

(Didn't think this would work but wanted to rule all things I know out.)

I guess this is no big deal but is VERY annoying and would not like to reload program and then find out it wasn't worth it / things still the same.

I'm sorry that LT does not support SYSDLG.

I will find other ways.

I tested AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT.

In the AutoCAD, A drawing that I test, Its System variables save currently edited value, So When it opens it, The drawing system variable value is the last setting.

However, In the LT version, I put the same case of the test as AutoCAD, When I open the saved drawing, System variable value reset.

Therefore, I have to look for more information about the issue.

Is your LT version fully patched and updated? It doesn't happen on it's own, but it may not be available for trial users either.

We do not see that issue here. But DYNMODE is a system wide setting saved in your Windows Registry file: if your desired setting is not sticking, it may be due to a corrupt Registry file or a Windows log-in limitation.

Thanks for that info.

I am using the free trial and wondered if that was the issue.
I have not updated etc and there has been no prompt (as you say - doesn't seem avaiable to free trial).

I'll move to subscription and see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks agaian

Okay have authorised my free trial with subscription and tried to install update but says a version of update already installed (am assuming as I just downloaded the program it is up to date??).

Still no change. No sysdlg.
And still need to reset dynmode to 0 every time I open the program.
Will become habitual but rathr it wasn't that way.

Anything else to try?

From last comment seems maybe I should relaod?
(Couldn't fully follow stuff about windows stuff).

SYSDLG is an express tool in full AutoCAD, not LT.

Did you talk to someone at I.T. to help you fix your Windows Registry? DYNMODE settings are saved there.

Sorry for dragging this out.

When you mention IT, do you mean here at my end?
I am self-employed and do not have an IT department / am my own IT person!

There are lots of things I do know but am not sure how to go about windows registry stuff.  Can you suggest a link? Or give me a brief 'how to guide'??
Have googled and think I am not asking the right questions.

Thank you

Also, I found this forum discussion:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-lt-forum/autocad-2018-lt-settings-problem/td-p/6967102

And so tried again to install updates from my acad account.
When I run AutoCAD_LT_2018.1.1_Update_32bit.exe I get an error message saying the acad product does not exist (am paraphrasing) and when i look at the additional information / details it says there is an extg Beta copy of this file already installed.

Think this is as per what I said yesterday when I tried the update.

Not sure if any of this helps or is just adding noise.

Yes, you need access to someone with Windows Setup experience to help you out.

>>>...says there is an extg Beta copy ...<<<
Uninstall the beta first, restart your Windows PC, then try and patch again. Doubt it has anything to do with your inability to save to a specific folder though.
