How do I open a dwg file into a drawing?

Hi,

You can just double click on the .dwg file to open it in AutoCAD or with AutoCAD open press "Ctrl+O" and browse the .dwg file to open.

Use xref or insert the dwg as a block. Both of these are in the insert tab of the ribbon, or the menu. Which one you use depends on how you want to use the information in the dwg
