DWG Export in Autocad Model Space

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all,

I have created a model/  drawing for a cabinet (I'm a freelance joinery draughtsman) and exported the drawing to DWG for submission to my client to allow them to do the necessary work for cutting lists and machining. However, they need to be able to copy the drawing views into model space at 1:1 if possible (most views are 1:10).

Can drawing views be converted Within Autocad LT 2021 from paper space to model space?

Thanks

COPY/PASTE between the layouts not an option for them(or they did not try)? They then need to adjust scale.
OR
CHSPACE command after they create a scaled viewport in modelspace first.

As a draughtsman, you should know that the model elements of your drawing should be drawn at 1:1 in model space. In order to get them there from being incorrectly drawn in paper space to a scale, you can either copy/paste and scale them to 1:1 as you are pasting o after pasting. You could also make a viewport at the proper scale and use CHSPACE to move them from paper to model space,

What program are you using to draw the model, the way it sounds is that you are using something different. Could you post a dwg file so we can see exactly what they are wanting to do, as that would make it easier to answer.

Pendean, thanks for the replay
Copy/Paste is not an option as the DRAWING VIEWS do not come with a view port and CHSPACE is the same.
For some reason when Fusion 360 creates a drawing view (the equivalent of a viewport in Autocad) Autodesk have created something that completely unusable in any other drawing application

The issue is not my draughting skills; the model is created in Fusion 360 at 1:1 the scaled views of the model are created for drawing purposes.

The issue is that Fusion creates 'DRAWING VIEWS' not viewports as you would expect so they can not be converted to Model space. Copy/ Paste doesnt work nor does CHSPACE

Steven,

The model has been created in Fusion 360 and the associated drawings from within the same program.

Ive been playing with the DWG file thats exported see attached its nothing flash just some cupboards but will show you the problem

Cheers

When you output the sheet from Fusion 360 use the 'simplified DWG' option and not 'Autocad DWG' it's in the drop-down from the output options in Fusion.

This creates a dwg in modelspace, it creates a dwg with basic 'normal' geometry lines/circles etc but at least this can be used to scale back to real-world sizes.

I'm only just learning Fusion 360 so there may be better methods, but this does get you the 2D views that most AutoCAD LT users could work with. I would suggest asking about methods to export the views as usable dwg in the Fusion 360 forums.

Hi

- For some reason when Fusion 360

Ok, this is a very special thing and has nothing to do with AutoCAD modeldocs.

No it is'nt. In AutoCAD  you have the same kind of 'drawing view'/Modeldoc ! Viewports is another thing and available too in AutoCAD.

BUT: In AutoCAD (i guess also in Fusion) you have one model and these drawing views are linked to the model.

Problem1: In your fusion dwg, the model is missing and so the link from drawing view is broken,

it's just like a stupid 2D copy with no edit methods evailable by usual ways.

Problem2: Also if it would work, in LT-Versions you can  not edit/create drawing views.

Right for this way of Export. I like Stevens answer above an i would ask other Fusions user too.

That's a key bit of information to be left out.

The file has paper space and model space. They can be moved to model space using CHSPACE if you make a view port to the appropriate scale. Alternatively, copy/paste will also work if you scale the object during or after the operation.

Have you tried? It doesn't work, at least not with AutoCAD LT the program reports 'objects filtered out' it is also not possible to copy/paste from Paper to Modelspace, these 'drawing views' are basically nothing more than pretty pictures, they are smart enough to be correct with AutoCAD's distance tool or even dimensions but you can't "DO" anything with them.

Steven,

I tried to post this on the Fusion forum and as I did a solution came up.

EXPORTLAYOUT is the solution it exports the drawing Layout to a separate file and converts the views to Model space this works spot on for me and my happy client

Well done that basically does the same as the output simplified dwg from Fusion. Though it does create blocks from each of the views which is probably easier because you can just adjust the 'block' scale in the properties palette.

Good to see a solution. Well done

Well I'll be...

That's not a drawing by any stretch of the imagination. It's just wrapped in a .dwg. There's a possible solution for "locking" .dwgs.
