I use AutoCAD LT 2015 and I have a question about DWG files downloading safety. I recently had a job where I had to download a file from an engineering firm which was from a AutoCAD AEC (not sure what version). Everything went fine, I got my info & revisons made OK.... but it got me wondering if there is any protocol the experts use to make certain things are safe to download. Are there things you folks look for before doing a download? Is there any set rules of the CAD road to follow that I should know?
Thanks

1. Can I get any kind of negative impacts from downloading other peoples files? Such as a virus, malware & ???
2. Can their files contaminate or corrupt any of my AutoCAD LT files or settings in any way?
3. An AEC AtuoCAD program is a big gun compared to my LT. Is there any harm in opening a file from a larger more complex program into a smaller one?
4. I recently looked at a few jobs from "Upwork" & "Freelancer" and I see stuff from all over the world. I wouldn't want something like a "Zika virus" sneaking into my office.

1. Always: that's why you need to have all the proper and all the up to date anti-malware and anti-virus software on your PC, server and network.
2. It's never been documented AFAIK.
3. No. but they, the users of the AEC versions of AutoCAD, should ideally perform as "save as autocad" to the files they share to you in order for you to not miss anything in the file.
4. See #1 response above.

That answers all 4 of my questions. Nothing like preventative medicine and being careful!
Thanks again.
