Dimensions not visible in layout view

This is one of those on-again off-again frustrating issues.

The problem: I add a dimension in Model Space, but it is not visible in Layout. No problem with drawing items, only dimensions. After some "floundering" (not an official AutoDesk term),  I see the dimension in Layout. Don't know what I'm doing wrong, or how I manage to get the dimensions to show again. Any and all help appreciated.

Yes, have searched the help file and manuals to no avail.

When you check the properties of your viewport, it should indicate the annotative scale. If you have used annotative objects, only those for the selected viewport annotative scale will be visible in the viewport. Annoallvisible turns the annotative objects on for all annotative scales, then you can check which one you need on. Usually one of the main reasons many of us avoid annotative objects: more trouble than they are worth, considering most of us survived for 30 years using autocad without a need for them.

You have your dims layer frozen in your viewport. Simply unthaw and it works.

the only idea i have is that my dimstyle is not the same in model and layout. how can i change that. when i plot, i dont see my dimensions in layout or preview. i am just fiddling here with all the butttons.

LAYER and AnnoScale, that's all.

Upload your File and we can help, without the file: Start re-reading the post again (sorry).

If you can see the dimension in the tab you want to plot:

Check the PLOT property of you Layer(s).

Where are you? MODEL tab or LAYOUT tab?

Where is youre DimensionObject? MODEL tab or LAYOUT tab?

If in MODEL tab: Can you see the dimension in MODEL tab?

Wnat to plot a Layout?

Can you see the modelspace dimension in your Layout tab?

Your Layer (ID-DIM) is frozen in this Viewport, nothing more.

Go into this vieport (doubleclick in the area inside the viewport),

check your Layermanager palette. Column "VP Freeze" (not just "Freeze").

You will see there are THREE Layers freezed for this layout viewport, not just the ID-DIM.

This is a setting of the current viewport, so you can see this column only if you are not on Model TAB.

Learn also how to use the VPLAYER command.

Thank you Katani. I had the same problem and your ANNOALLVISIBLE, 1, solution worked.

What did I do wrong to get this problem?

Thanks again,

Jeff

If you want to work with annotation feature:

-Your mistake is to forget to add the anno scale (you using in your viewport)

  OBJECTSCALE [F1]

  https://help.autodesk.com/view/ACD/2021/ENU/?guid=GUID-85450EAE-8B5B-47BD-AA45-3DB5B733FD64

OR

- your Annotation scale in your viewport is wrong (your objects doesn't support this anno scale / Objectscale)

Select your viewport, check the anno scale setting.

If you dont want to work with annotation feature

- Your mistake was to set objects to annotation YES.

Perhaps also your dimscale

DIMSTYLE
