Hello Helpful People,
I am drafting on Autocad 2017LT and I keep encountering the same issue when I alter the location of a dimension by moving the dimension text via insertion point. The point that is causing the issue is the one with the cloud drawn around it, dimension 1 in the attached image. The error occurs with dimensions that have text overrides. The text override that I am using is <>\X . Dimension 2 in the attached image is an example of a dimension with text override that is functioning properly. Dimension 3 in the attached image is an example of a dimension with text override that is not functioning properly, and had its text moved by the insertion point. This issue only occurs in dimensions with text overrides, as shown in dimension 4 in the attached image. The only preventative measure I have found is to not move the dimensions text after I put in the override. This typically occurs accidentally when I am stretching near by lines and I do not notice that i selected the text in the dimension, but this is also an issue when I am trying to make the dimension have a leader. A solution I have found is to add a line space in the dimension text override, which makes the override <>\X\P , but this also produces issues. When adding a line space to the text on the bottom, it causes the text to be too far below the dimension, which can be confusing when there are numerous dimensions in close proximity. See dimension 5 in the attached image to see the difference between a dimension with override that has not been moved (red dimension) on top of a dimension that has the line space (yellow Dimension).
Does anyone have any other solutions to this problem asides from deleting the dimension and starting over?

Instead of using the \X override, have you tried editing the dimension itself. Dimension text is MTEXT and you can edit it just like normal mtext

Instead of using "<>\XDLO" in the text overide, use "<>\pxsm1.25;\XDLO" you will have to adjust the number 1.25 to suit your needs but that tells Autocad what line spacing you want (I use metric but I believe the number is a percentage of the standard text spacing).

Post back with any new updates. I'd be happy to try and help. Thanks.
Hello Hwalker,
I tried editing the dimension as a MTEXT item, but it also produces the larger gap between the dimension line and the text below the dimension.
Thank you for your suggestion.
Hello steven-g,
Your suggestion fixes the issue of the text being on the line, and it maintains the location of the text even when moved.
Thank you for your suggestion.
Very interesting answer. I just couldn't make it work
When I type your line the dimensions just shows me what I typed, not the effect of it.
If you could please try to explain these options again.
PS. I use <>/XSETBACK for example when I want two lines, the actual dimension on top and the word SETBACK at the bottom, the /X disappears and I am left out word only. only problem is that when I move the text to another location within the dimension line, the dimension line dissapears and I want to keep it with the dimension above and text below just as it when the text is homed
Joel, I couldn't make this work, could you please explain what you typed after ?
EX: <>/XSETBACK for dimension above and word SETBACK at the bottom. When I move the text, the dimension line disappears in the section. I think the 1.25 is to give it more space but the prefix just didn't work for me.
