Designjet 800

hello-

my name is colin and i'm new to AutoCAD-  I have a new windows 10 computer and trying to setup my designjet 800 to plot.  I used the autocad plotter wizard but I get an error about the driver not working- I can print fine from windows but appears I can't get this designjet to plot using

the autocad LT- 2016 installed on my computer-

I don't have a support contract with AutoCAD so hoping someone has seen a work-around.

thanks,

colin

This tip for Win8 drivers can also be used in Win10 to get drivers that will work with AutoCAD https://latitude-it.net/hp-designjet-plotter-drivers-and-windows-8/

You might have to remove the driver you already have first and restart your computer https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...

Have you tried using different print drivers by any chance? Did that help?

To add here is another resource that offers a few suggestions ( Forgot to add it in my previous post).

I had the exact same issue as you, was able to fix it, this is what I did:

1: In Autocad, click in the console text bit at the bottom and type in plotter, this should autocomplete to plotterwizard or something like that, click it to open the folder of Autocad plotter templates and double click the wizard to add a new plotter.

2: Go through the wizard to add a new Autocad plotter, add it as a "DesignJet 750C C3195A" (I know we have a 800, but this works), for the port select the one your 800 is on, complete the wizard.

3: Go to print and from the drop down list of printers select the 750C (will only appear in Autocad not Windows) instead of the 800.

4: Print.

This should work fine for you too.

Thanks for posting this. I looked around at several other fixes but most of them were along the lines of "try to download drivers for other printers and maybe it will work..." You are the only one that I saw that mentioned this particular workaround which fixed our problem using TrueView 2018. Using your method I did not have to install any drivers. I simply used the existing printer drivers that were already on the network.

You can't type commands in TrueView so the instructions were slightly different for us. Since I wrote these steps for my own sake I'll post them here in case it helps anyone out. Note that you may have to make some changes to these steps depending on how your environment is set up.

  1. In TrueView, click the icon in the top left of the program and choose Options
  2. Click on the “Plot and Publish” tab
  3. Click “Add or Configure Plotters”
  4. Double click “Add-A-Plotter Wizard”
  5. You will be prompted to do this from your computer, network server, or system printer. Choose “My Computer” and click Next
  6. Under Manufacturer choose Hewlett-Packard.
  7. Under Models choose "DesignJet 750C C3195A" and click Next
  8. If a popup appears recommending you download HP drivers, click Continue
  9. On the Import PCP (import file) screen, click Next
  10. On the Ports screen, choose “Plot to a port” and choose your DesignJet 800 from the list then click Next
  11. Name it something that will be obvious to you that it is the workaround for the plotter. I named it “DesignJet 800 Fix”.
  12. Optional: Click on “Edit Plotter Configuration” and change the settings as you see fit.
  13. Click Finish.
  14. Optional: At this point you should still have the Options screen open to the “Plot and Publish” tab. Here you can change your default output device to the newly fixed plotter.
  15. Make sure you choose the newly created plotter when you go to plot. It should work as expected now.
