Can't setup new layer notification

With Autocad LT 2023, I'm trying to test layer notification; I turned on all the notification options in the layer properties manager settings;

Untitled2.png

LAYEREVALCTL=1

LAYEREVAL=2

LAYERNOTIFY=63

I try adding new layers from the layer properties manager, adding layers by attaching xrefs, adding layers by binding\inserting those xrefs... I save the drawing, reopen it, plot... nothing brings up the new layer notification.

(Layer notification should work in lite - see here)

Also can someone explain the difference between saving a template with reconciled or unreconciled layers, thanks.

What problem is it that you are hoping to solve? Big picture explanation please.

The only "alert" you will receive is a small icon and if-turned-on a brief pop-up near it at the lower right corner of the program letting you know you have unreconciled (aka new layers found in an XREF), not much else. Perhaps it is already there but you missed it? Yellow exclamation mark on top of a small icon if the look. It works fine for us in the LT2023.0.1 version.

I did some more testing and I think I found my issue - layer notification only works after a new drawing has been saved. I had been trying to get layer notification with xrefs and new layers before saving the host file. (Even after saving, only the new layers from the save-point and on will be identified as unreconciled, the xrefs and layers added before the save are ignored.)

Is this the expected behavior, and if so why?
Thanks.

It kind of makes sense that you don't get notifications before saving. The save as probably establishes the initial benchmark.

umm, why would the program report a change in an unsaved file? Can you imagine the nightmare if someone else opened a file you have XRFEFed into your file and it kept through alerts at you all the time BEFORE that other used committed to the changes by a SAVE?

AutoCAD/LT is not that, sorry. Not sure any other program does that either.

I understand that changes in the xref'd file shouldn't continuously cause alerts in the host file before those changes in the xref were commited, but why doesn't any layer-notification/reconciliation work in the host file before that host file is saved.

Why is it so important to know the reasoning?

It could have been a choice the programmers made or maybe it was just a limitation because of the way the tool works. Either way, you probably won't get the answer here because the programmers aren't a part of this community.
