AutoCAD not downloading files from OneDrive

My laptop has been working well for a 2.5 years. Recently it started to do something really strange. I started to have problems opening AutoCAD files. I would open some CAD files and started to get the message "File not Valid". Then there were other CAD files that I was able to open just fine, but the x-refs did not work. When I opened the X-ref Manager to resolve the x-ref issues, the file would freeze and I would have to Ctrl+Alt+Del out of the program. I have done many tests by trying to open the same files in other computers. All the files I had problems with opened without any problems in at least 3 other computers. I finally figured out what was happening.

I have onedrive installed in my laptop (this is how I have worked on work files for at least a couple of years). that means that I can open all files in onedrive using my windows explorer once I sign in to onedrive. Not just AutoCAD files, but all files saved into onedrive. The problem that I was facing occurred only with files that were on onedrive that were not downloaded to my laptop. Normally the files "in the cloud" are shown in windows explorer with a cloud symbol next to them. That means that they are available at any moment, but they must first be downloaded and that is my problem.

I can open all files, including AutoCAD files, directly from windows explorer. If the file is "in the cloud" it will automatically download and open. HOWEVER if I am INSIDE AUTOCAD and try to open the file, using the AutoCAD File Open icon/menu, AutoCAD will show the file but when I click on the "open" button, the file will say  "File not Valid" and the file will not open. The reason is that Autocad no longer has permissions to download files from onedrive.

On the other hand if the file is downloaded first using windows explorer, AutoCAD will in fact open the file without a problem. HOWEVER if the file has X-refs, I run into the same issue, AutoCAD will not find the X-ref files because it wont download them from OneDrive. I have tested this and if I download all the files using windows explorer first and THEN open the autocad file, all the X-refs will load up without a problem.

The only workaround I have found for now is to download all the files for a project using windows explorer and then working on the files with AutoCAD. I worked on this same laptop for a a couple of years and have never had this issue. All of a sudden this is happening and it is making work miserably slow and tedious. I have no idea what changed or if there is a setting somewhere that revoked AutoCAD's permission to automatically download from OneDrive.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling onedrive in my laptop. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling AutoCAD and neither has worked. I have also turned off my anti-virus software (AVG) just in case and nothing has fixed it.

I have no idea what else to try. Any clues anyone?

LT version as listed in ABOUT command is...?
OS is...?

"all of a sudden" means something with your setup or settings or permissions (or an update) locked DWG files out from being accessed, as you have summarized.

The trick is to find out what and where: I would start with drilling down into your OneDrive settings, then your OS/OneDrive settings, changed licensing for OneDrive perhaps, if autosync got turned off or paused for example, if you turned on (or off) versionings in OneDrive, or you started using SharePoint with OneDrive or.... .

There is not going to be a fix in AutoCAD unless you changed it recently, especially if it is 2.5years old and unaltered.

I have AutoCAD LT version 2021.1
OS is: Windows 10.

I have not changed any licensing with OneDrive. I don't have sharepoint.
Sync is on. Thanks for giving it a try.

So did the problem start with LT2021.1? That's not 2.5year old as you implied in your initial post: what else is is not 2.5years old (and more likely only a day or to three days old) that may be the trigger to the problem? Find out, dig deeper, WindowsOS loves to keep track of everything being installed and removed if you look.
